500 lumen is perfectly fine depending on use. You don't want 1000 lumen when you're under a car or working on a fuse box. This h25lr headlamp has the Samsung lh351d emitter which is a flood light not a throwy emitter plus it's high cri so colors are not washed out.

Everyone seems to be missing the point on these. They're deep red lights, these are for specific tasks like preserving night vision. I use red lamps for walking into and out of the woods while hunting, animals are far less sensitive to red and green spectrum lighting. They're great for fishing at night, they attract about 10x less bugs than a white light.

Those don't have the red light which is the main feature of the sofirn.

You can get significantly more light for just a bit more $
Not really, you may get a higher powered turbo mode but the Samsung 351 emitter inside will put out 300-350 lumins for almost three hours which is as good as any other led I know of. https://tgreviews.com/2022/07/23/sofirn-d25lr/

Buying a flashlight based on the "lumin" output from the manufacture is pointless if you use your light for more than the 30 seconds it runs in high mode.

a lot of comments about the usefulness of the red light. Just know that this is not just for hunting and hiking. It is useful for normal people too. the main thing is that it is less annoying to everyone around you (including wildlife). the brightest light in the world will piss off the whole campgrounds.

sometimes the brightest light is not what you want, as others have said its more about respecting others around you then for yourself.

Ah the red is overrated, a gimmick with early headlamps because red leds were the cheapest and an easy addon for marketing.

The hunting argument never rings true for me because hunters need other colors than red to follow blood trails, i think it was green or purple, i don't remember.
Can't speak for hunters specifically but it's not a gimmick. In stargazing meetups, red lights are mandatory because they don't mess up your night vision like white lights do. I also find they attract far fewer bugs.

I have this headlamp - at noted - the red lamp is perfect for night activities - I use it for astrophotography, hiking, etc.
Pros - Both white & red lights are bright and are dimmable. I don't think I would ever need a brighter headlamp. I've had no problems with battery life. You can easily angle the light up or down.
Cons- It is pretty bulky, but not uncomfortable to wear. I wouldn't use this for night running, for instance. It is rechargeable - which is a mixed blessing. If you run out of battery at the wrong time - you are out of luck. I usually pack a back-up AA powered headlamp while night hiking for safety.
please suggest me something that's light weight with Red and white LED combo ( for running, hiking ) with USB-C chargeable ( to avoid cable clutters :-)

Favorite headlamp to date:

This one is heavier with the 21700 battery but lasts a long time. I picked up 2 spare batteries for $10 each and can use non-stop for over 10 hours at the 2nd highest setting
Astro/night photography has a huge need for the red light option. you can keep your workspace illuminated while not messing up your eyes exposing them to white light. also does not mess with your photo composition by blasting white light on a 30 sec exposure.

but to me the MAIN difference is the rechargeable battery. that is a total game changer. no fusing with batteries. i usually have a battery backup in my camera bag anyway. so i can just get a quick charge for a headlamp without carrying extra batteries.

Thx for posting.
I don't need $29 worth of stuff for their free shipping. Just ordered this from AliExpress without battery for $10.87. Free 2 week shipping, and I already have spare 18650s.
can you provide a link. thanks

Red is good for getting up in the middle of the night (to pee or whatever) when camping, either tent or a vehicle.

My original point was rather that I'd prefer to have a light that can be bright as well, not just low
If you have options of "super bright" down to "firefly" "moonlight" etc, that's more versatile than a light fixed at the low setting

This Sofirn H25LR provides 500 honest lumens: many top-rated LED lights advertise lumen counts inflated by an order of magnitude or greater. This light also uses an LED that excels at color rendering rather than blasting weirdly-tinted light with a crazy distribution of frequencies that may make it difficult to discern, for example, blues from greens or oranges from reds. The additional red LED is another selling point for those seeking to preserve their night vision.

I already have a Skilhunt headlamp with the same LED, but I'm in for two of this for my kids. Ironically, while typing this defense of the H25LR I've decided to also get a Sofirn HS41 — a 4000-lumen headlamp with quad SST-20 emitters (currently $32.39 shipped from Sofirn for me) — to complement my Skilhunt H04 RC.

The HS41 can not push over 2000lm for more than 30 seconds.https://zeroair.org/2023/08/17/so...mp-review/
It is typical for these lights to thermal down to 300-400 lumens after a min.

how many times have you hiked at night and had bugs or bats getting in your eyes/hair? Red light is very useful in certain conditions
