Great camera.
The R8 Mark II will be coming out mid 2025 most likely. (The R6 Mark III is rumored to be ready already, launching late this year or in early 2025. The R8 Mark II should follow (less than) six months after.) The AF and video features will likely improve in line with the R5 II. That is to say the improvements for stills shooters won't be massive, mainly just even better AF. Once the R8 II comes out, I predict the price on the Refurb R8 to go down to $799 or even $699 around Black Friday 2025. Of course, it's not worth waiting a year for a $100 price drop.
We are spoiled for choice at great prices!

Just checked prices. Laughed at the RP at 649. It's 548 at big green. Buy it now price. I was thinking about that.

Canon's best AF systems, a very modern sensor. A no brainer above the RP. I would pick it over eth R6 Mark I as well. If there is a good deal on the R6 II, that's my first choice. The R8 is my second choice. I can live with the R8's compromises vis-a-cis the R6 II.
Of course, seeing what the R6 III and the R8 II will be like would be helpful. But that would likely require waiting one more year. (Which I may do as I have too many cameras as it is.
