It's simple pieces of plastic - the cost of materials is next to nothing.
It seems like the company has sold its soul as a brand inspiring creativity in kids and is now just a profit machine. Most of these sets don't even lend themselves towards the creativity inherent to the idea of Lego (build anything you want). When you're paying these prices for Harry Potter (or Star Wars or any major license) sets, you're paying for these Legos to stay built the way the manual says and sit on a shelf.
I understand that profit is the primary objective for most businesses but seeing Lego sell sets for hundreds of dollars feels like finding out Santa isn't real - the old magic is lost.
