KEF is discontinuing these models with the new Q meta series
FYI if someone was thinking of these for HT use, they having the matching bookshelves & centers on sale also.
Q150 for $349 pair from $599
Q350 for $499 pair from $799
Q250 for $399 from $599
Q650 for $699 from $799
I've got KEF throughout my house - picked them up on various deals over the years. All of them are precious to me.

I've got a 5.1 set up of the Qs from about 12 years ago, Q350s and Q750s a center and a sub. Still wows me every time I listen to them.

The only reason I don't grab this deal is because I don't have a room in my house without some sort of Kef setup.

Would anyone buy without Grille? Asking as it would be additional $49 X 2 cost.
I think they look better without the grill but if you have small kids or a pet, I'd get them.

Not much info comparing new Q meta series to this gen, even on the KEF subreddit.

I just want to know how much better the new meta series is because the Q950 at this price is pretty amazing.
Having experience with both.
Are the Metas overall better, yes.
How much better and whether that better is worth the cost, no one can answer that for you imo.

Upon saying that I would say in general if you have listened to these and were very impressed & always wanted them.
At this price it's unlikely the metas would impress you more worth the extra cost imo.

Thanks for the reply. How would you compare them in a nutshell? Again I cannot find YT videos or forum discussion on the meta vs q towers specifically.

Yes obviously and but am just questioning if the new Q11 series is substantially, moderately, or negligibly better than the Q950. I realize amp/acoustics/placement/cabling etc all contribute but just curious. I'm patient and can wait for a good sale on Meta for a $500-600 more but I'm more "baller on a budget" best bang for buck and this Q950 deal is by the far lowest price ever.
i would put it as incrementally better. but not worth the price difference when comparing the closeout price of the old model to the MSRP of the new model. both models are readily available at the retail level, so go listen to them.

Grills sold separately 🤔
I read this as "Girls sold separately" and thought "What kind of expectations do these speakers give people???" Big Grin

If all I have is a simple Denon AVR, I assume I can't drive these with just the AVR. What would I need to make these sing properly?
Depends on your listening distance and room size. If it's not loud enough, you know what to upgrade!

You have to call a pro rep to get the best street price. If you are interested, call FullCompass and ask for Darin Phillips (there are other places to get similar prices.)

that's $1100 shipped, but this was also 2017.

Good point. I've been out of the speaker game since 2008 so just looking for any feedback.

I would normally be a huge proponent of getting the biggest woofers you can for centers, but I have heard from many sources that the q150 and their 5.25 woofers don't really fall behind the q300 and the 6.5 woofers, and they actually "sound better". I would REALLY look into the center, though. Maybe the cabinet size plays a role here, and the 6.5 are designed to have the necessary breathing room in that cabinet. If so, c605 all the way.

I didn't get the grills for mine. Previously, I always had grills, but I've been living grill-less for years now and it looks great.

(If you have cats, the grills might have a scratching post effect! )

I have time home theater with two Q650 , two Q350, one Q650 and two 12" Kef Qube subs. I love them! They sound so good at low and high volume. They never distort and are very clear. I have them hooked up to a Yamaha A6A.

KEF is thee brand to get IMO

In a nutshell for me the metas adds slightly more natural depth to their sound. The change is a good one imo.

Key word is slight, TBH you probably would only notice it listening to them side by side.

If this is a blind buy, this is good deal for half the price of the metas imo.

PS the metas are harder to drive, clean power will probably be preferred.
