What makes a guitar a good guitar for a beginner player trying to learn? I mean like a real beginner who has zero musical ability? Asking for a friend.

I've never seen the phrase "asking for a friend" used unironically. I don't know much about beginner guitars but I wouldn't spend more than $200.

For a true beginner, the best thing is to get a guitar that they think looks AWESOME. The easiest guitar to learn on is one that the player loves.

Seriously. Window shop until a guitar calls them so completely that they're in love with it. That will radically improve their chances of actually wanting to pick it up and play.

Then have a friend who plays (or a shop) give it a once over to ensure it's playable, and buy a guitar beginner book of music they love.

The guitar is the easy part. Motivation to practice is the hard part. A cool guitar helps. There are technical nuances, sure, but most won't matter until someone gets the basics down, and then they can start to feel and hear the differences between guitars for their second axe.

Ya, but for beginner also lower fretbars and lower gauge strings would probably help a ton so it's not as steep a learning curve having to build up calluses and muscle strength as much.

Lower fret bars? I think you mean "low action", in other words the strings are closer to the frets so one doesn't struggle to press the strings down. Also most guitars usually come with light to medium gauge strings.
