This is actually a good deal I was looking to buy one two weeks ago and it was hovering around $70. Yes there's cheaper options but they're ugly af

I use this to purely expand my Lightroom storage (photo/video) and my NAS backs everything up as redundancy

I may be a bit outdated, but what's a DAS? It sounds like it's just an external enclosure. Maybe raid 0?

direct attached storage, so like an external hard drive, but DAS usually means it's more than one drive that attaches directly to a computer.
No mention of RAID but it should be possible via software.

In all fairness, there is 1 review from 1 actual Amazon purchaser!....btw, I only searched the 5 star reviews since I lost my patience with this "vine" (freebie) nonsense!😏

Yes essentially. The DAS requires some kind of host or server machine to do the actual file management. I've considered them in the past because Synology NAS come with weak processors which aren't great at transcoding.

DAS = "Direct Attached Storage". AKA, a drive enclosure!🙄

It's simply a drive enclosure that holds 2 drives vs. 1. Nothing fancy, nothing special. I guess that it may serve a purpose(?)

Any drive enclosure can be considered "DAS"....and be given that moniker for advertising purposes.
This is incorrect.

A DAS has a storage controller built in that allows multiple drives to interface over one connection. Many include advanced features such as RAID and the ability to talk to the drive's controller directly.

The storage controller in an enclosure is far less complicated and only allows one drive to interface over a single connection, essentially acting as a converter. It usually does not allow for transparent interfacing with the drive's controller, which is why you often have to take the drive out to perform firmware updates.

In the rare instance that you do find an enclosure (not a DAS) that supports multiple drives, there is probably a very inefficient hub situation going on.

Thanks for the info! I was basing that on a review that I read, which contained inaccuracies. I removed that response.
