Older versions of these are notorious for corrupting (info easily found if googled). I've personally had one fail on me. I work with many SSD drives at work and have seen these fail there as well. One of the IT guys at work advised to avoid these. I'd highly recommend the ones Samsung makes. We use those at work now. The Samsung ones we use exchange hands quite a bit, even travel across the world and are shipped across the States. No problems yet.

These drives used to have problems a few years/months back where people lost all data on drives. Not sure if it's fixed or not, but I'd be very hesitant if this particular model or at least not use this for something critical.

Have to chime in that I use a ton of SSDs and have also had problems with these sandisk drives failing but none yet with the samsung t5/t7/t9

Try different cable. Otherwise, it may cost quite a bit. Use 2 or 3 backup sources next time. I have 3 copies across 3 different drives in case I get hosed. Plus copies on 2 other externals.

Thanks, OP!....but this is an established POS! You get what you pay for when it comes to SSD's! Samsung is the best choice (and if it's critical data, it's the only choice)!

Just had my sandisk extreme 1tb fail. Plugged the serial number into the recall website and it wouldn't even show as valid suggesting that western digital and sandisk are not transparent on the issue.

Buy a recovery program or contact a professional recovery service. Most of them just use off the shelf software anyway so save yourself some money and do it yourself. You will need a good disk to move the files to.
