I have a slightly different version of this PC. This is a good, not super hot, deal but if you need a PC right now I'd def consider it.

The PC itself is strong - I own several of the HP Victus line and have had very good experience/luck in them lasting vs (say) the Dell G series line

Tempting. I have a Gigabyte-branded laptop with RTX 3060. Will it be upgraded?

I have one with a 4050, and while the specs are good, the PC is not. Very weird issues with USB devices and video output. Even after a clean reformat with a Microsoft ISO. I'd stay away and go for a desktop that is much more reliable.

Just picked one up for $636 (incl. tax) — had a $100 off any laptop coupon. Great specs considering the price. Haven't booted or tested it yet, but overall it's lightweight, has a good build, and comes with a nice, compact power brick. Thanks, OP!

Was the $100 off laptop coupon in an email or web site? Would love to get my hands on one. Thanks.

For details, refer to the link below:

Actually, the coupon has expired as of now. MC was offering it until October. In fact, my coupon had expired too—I received it in the first week of October, and it expired in the 3rd or 4th week of the same month. I requested MC to extend it, and they accepted as a courtesy. They are really flexible.
You might get lucky if you follow the steps shown in the link above. Good luck!

I doubt it (assuming not Max-Q), in games it seems to be a 0-20% improvement from 3060 to 4060. If your CPU is significantly older it might have an impact, but realistically you're looking at 10-30% tops in that case…

I can confirm, my usb-c port fails to register mouse clicks when gaming. May be YMMV but I thought I was the only one.

Although the 8gb of VRAM are a nice upgrade

It's hard to say because otherwise the only upgrade you can get is a 3080 laptop or 4080

I bought this one last time and the wifi/bluetooth was pretty bad and even switching it over to Intel didn't fix it but for $594.96 (Open box) I might give it another shot because it is a pretty good laptop minus the wifi/bluetooth issue I experienced.
