I've had this for a few weeks. It's been a horrible experience: laptop freezing up (either a memory paging or CPU max issue, which is odd) and also multiple issues with the track pad driver. I plan to return this and keep an eye out for something better in this price range

I am looking for laptop for my daughter (Senior in HS). Anybody knows if there are any better deal than this during Thanksgiving?
The requirements are 14 inch screen size.

Is ACER a reliable brand?

I picked up the previous generation of this laptop (Acer Swift 3) refurbished through Acer's eBay store about 18 months ago for my kid going to college. It's been great for her. I'm probably going up pick up another refurb for my younger kid when they go to college.

The nice part about laptops from this generation and prior is that their GPUs are decent for less demanding titles like Fortnite and Counterstrike. But you're not gonna push consistent frames at max settings. This is more a thin/light productivity machine for using Office and websurfing. I would rather look up the many gaming laptops with dedicated GPUs going for under $1k that have been posted all over slickdeals and r/laptopdeals over the past few weeks.

I picked this up for my Mom today. It was a debate between this and Lenovo that goes on sale at Costco in a couple days. I checked them out and the Lenovo does feel a little bit better built, but also a bit heavier (which it is). The last one she had was an Asus 2-in-1 but it turns out she never uses that function so I decided to go with this one. Very similar performance.

Interestingly I've seen lots of similar reports on both the Acer Swift Go 14 and 16, but then the overall reviews are decent (4+ stars). My best guess is Acer is really skimping on QC and slapping these together, so some units come out faulty.

Was impressed with the specs. Went to Costco to check it out. It did not impress in person. It was kind of boxy with sharp edges. Reminds me of the Kia Soul. The construct is solid though. Much better than the Lenovo IdeaPad flex and HP I-forgot-which-model sitting next to it.

Mobile GPU's are laughably bad, especially those without a discrete/dedicated GPU.

Best bet for a very cheap 'gaming' laptop is probably the $550-599 4050 HP Victus flying around. Quality is probably bad though.

It IS a very cheap laptop afterall. I wouldn't expect much from anything sub $1k when it comes to laptops to be honest. Even over $1k is a gamble lol.

That's absurd. There are plenty of competent laptops in this price range let alone under 1k. It just depends on what your expectation is. Obviously this is not a gaming laptop (neither are most laptops in this price range).
