I priced out a family of 4 with 2 younger children, the cheapest week long vacation, late Jan mid Feb was ~$800, with 34 hrs of travel time (to be fair half of it should be sleep). Prices seem higher for March.
For the same trip, I could fly from DCA and rent a car for a week ~$1100, with 5 hrs travel time. Early March flights still came out to ~$1100 to 1200.
This is for people who like trains, hate flying, plan to stay in Florida more than a week, or can't afford the extra $300 for a vacation to Orlando, which in the region around Lorton is not too likely.

Now for $500+ this seems only worth if you want to take your car for a long trip or if you have kids with booster seats so you can leave them in the car.
