The oxidation issue was a separate issue with their manufacturing process which was said to have been fixed long ago. The lingering issue has been voltage-related, and is said to have been fixed in the latest microcode update. If I have issues, I'll avail myself of the extended warranty Intel has offered. The Alienware is WiFi 6E but that really doesn't matter to me on a wired connection. This PC doesn't have USB4 either so I'm not sure why you mentioned that.

I agree that skimping on included RAM is a good opportunity for cost-savings, and this is a solid option for people who refuse to buy Intel. Hell, if the price delta was $100-200, I'd probably buy this one instead. But over $500 savings on a PC that won't require me to buy additional stick of RAM is just too good to pass up.
The MSI MAG X870 TOMAHAWK does have USB4. You have to click the "info" button by the motherboard selection on the configuration page, or go look at the specs on the MSI site. As far as the Intel issue, you have to admit they are doing a terrible job of making it right for the customers. They are facing class action law suits, they won't issue a recall, and it looks like they are refusing to even disclose the serial number ranges of the fundamentally defective processors.

Almost certainly, the 50 series will be announced very soon (around January) and you will see these prices become normal and deals will get even better. If you can wait. I'm waiting myself but up to you. This is a solid deal paired with the newest and best cpu
I wouldn't be so certain. 5090 is supposed to be more expensive than 4090, 5080 is rumored to be drastically cut down vs 5090. 5080 probably still beats 4080 super (unsure) but will be introduced at a higher price than 4080 MSRP. If you can find a good discount on 4080, then that discount + price gap may make this a good deal until later in 50 series lifecycle. I'd consider picking this up had I not just upgraded to 5700x3d

It is still working right now for me when I configure it the way I listed in the original post. I just added it to my cart, $2097 - $100 for the coupon code "BFMONTH". $1997 + tax.
Can't find the location on the site for the coupon code in the cart

Isn't the 9900X a better choice for future proofing over the 9800X3D due to the additional cores?

The architecture of the two chips is different. The cache on the 9800x3d is on the same level as the CPU. The 9900s is on a separate level. Apparently this makes a big difference when gaming. For anything else other than gaming, the 9900 is a beast.

Did you click "view cart"? When you click on your cart icon it brings up a window on the right that has a button near the bottom that says "view cart". Once you go to the cart view, the spot for the coupon code is on the right side above the "secure checkout" button. For some reason after I click the "view cart" button, I have to refresh the page to actually get to the cart view/ checkout page. Maybe you are having the same problem.

What's your use case? AMD's x3D series of chips are literally the best thing you can get for gaming. If your use case is some very CPU intensive productivity thing that lends itself to throwing more and more cores at the problem, then yes the 9900x would be better.

Yeah the refresh is needed or the cart has no Checkout option or coupon code. I read the original post again and was able to get it to work for me.

I need a well rounded CPU for productivity and gaming. So I guess the 9900x would be a better fit.

Very poor merchant reputation. Do some due diligence before buying from this company. I wish mods would ban malicious companies from being posted here. Good luck to everyone who is risking it with this purchase!

5.x series will likely carry a higher MSRP and will not have sales for awhile. The biggest unknown is tariffs. Anywhere from 10-60% tariff and you will be lucky to get a system like this under $2500-3000 next year. I'm buying now and not waiting.

Ah, I do see the USB4 now. My mistake. And you're absolutely right about Intel. I don't think they could've done a worse job navigating this debacle if they tried, and the damage to their reputation and their bottom line is very much deserved. But for $500+ in savings, I'm willing to play the odds that mine won't be affected by the oxidation issue, and that the microcode update fixes the voltage spikes. If that isn't the case, I'll either return it or RMA it until it's fixed.
