Just picked one of these up. Hoping it can be a decent enough macbook killer. Working on apple silicon based macbook airs the last few years has spoiled me!

I picked this one up 3 weeks back for 1080$ from microcenter when they told me it's highly unlikely this model will go below 1080$. Is there a way I can get back the price difference?

Anyone know what the battery is like on this? Wondering how much the 16" screen affects the battery compared to the 14" version

I read the comparison of this vs the Intel core ultra 9, and this is better. Core ultra 9 gave people 11hrs.

Saw this in-store, surprisingly light for a 16". The screen has great colors and contrast but limited brightness.

i doubt the price protect on a black friday sale. most retailers will never do that. and it's only $80 on a completely brand new model anyway

Microcenter has really good customer service. Price matches can be done within 30 days no questions asked. If you used Amex or Microcenter card you can submit the request via live chat. Other cards have to go in person with receipt. I've had no problem matching any sale

I tried an Asus g16 and the screen was significantly worse for text and clarity compared to an M2 MacBook Pro... Also, the battery life is absolutely abysmal, and the touchpad even on Mac's sensitivity was not sensitive enough to move the cursor across the screen without having to lift my finger or wrist.

The Asus G16 I tried could get 5-6 hours max with near full brightness, web browsing, GPU disabled, 120hz.

The $800 refurbished ThinkPad T16 Gen 3 gets about twice that and has a better touchpad and less glare and IR camera for convenient login.

These new AMD Strix Point processors are very energy efficient. So you can't compare them with other laptops with different processor models.

So, I checked with Microcenter, and they have agreed to refund the price difference. Thats nice of them indeed. However, my friend who got this laptop for me used a debit card and for that, they will need to visit the store in person, and they are on vacation right now. Microcenter is trying to accommodate the request for a remote refund. that's indeed promising from them.

Apologies for the delayed reply. I myself got hold of the laptop only today via my friend after a long wait of almost a month since picking it up from Microcenter.
So many Pros are already listed everywhere. Not going too much into those.
Only things to look for are the thermals imo. In the very short time of usage, I've noticed the temperatures steady around 45 deg with minimal usage. And it is getting warmer as I do updates and stuff. Might have to check the thermal paste and reapply.
I also encountered a BSOD right after some windows/driver updates - DPC Watchdog Violation. I've done some driver updates, BIOS to v307 and since then haven't had issues yet. I cannot pinpoint which update caused this though. ( Also updated via the AMD Adrenaline Edition ) and MyASUS which i will later replace with Ghelper.
Other than these 2 issues, this looks a solid buy at 999. The screen is gorgeous, Keyboard is amazing, trackpad is OK, The SSD inside is a Micron one which I feel is a bit slow and will upgrade next week to a 2TB Samsung 980 Pro.
Initial Impression - Recommended Buy.

At this price, it is a great buy. I left a review on Microcenter's site listing pros and cons. After November 20th firmware the temps have gotten better. A big suggestion is to check thermal paste as mine was dried out when I got it tlnitially. On battery and with help of GHelper I can pull about 6 to 7 W (all in) doing light tasks. It can get me through a 9 hour day at work. It really is a good laptop. I have some nits (read my Microcenter review or Reddit posts by memnon8711). It can even do light 1080p gaming well.
