Serious question, what do you have against touchscreens? I've grown to appreciate them but don't know what the pitfalls are.
You can simply disable the touchscreen.

For me processor is the most important aspect of laptop, it does all the computing and you can't replace it. This processor has a 14800 multi-thread rating. a month ago for $431 there was a Dell 15"with Ryzen 7730U, which has a 18600 rating.
i feel like prices are about same or higher than 1-2 months ago. businesses jack up prices before holidays so that they claim a big discount during holidays.
from accounting perspective, businesses have no incentive to boost sale now with discounts. may be they try to sell as much as possible during BF/CM and then give further discount in late Dec to get rid of remaining inventory, before closing the books.
It's a bit misleading to compare one benchmark especially since you're comparing AMD to Intel. It's better to look at other benchmarks and also track your product to see if you're actually getting a deal. This is an ok no frills laptop for <500 and should last a while for most users. This won't be suitable for serious gaming / editing.

touchscreens are more delicate and hence more prone to failure. currently i have a laptop whose touchescreen went bad after 2 ft tall stack of cloths was kept on top of it for a few weeks. it does not display anything but touch part work. so i have to use an external monitor and use "mirror" option else i can't login.Theoretically, it could be a coincident. the laptop was bought brand new several years ago for $1200.
Hold on a second. You honestly believe your laptop screen had issues simply because you had a 2 foot stack of clothes on it for a few weeks?

That's completely illogical...

There is absolutely no way a 2 foot stack of clothing, by itself, would have done any damage to your laptop whatsoever. That's just beyond ridiculous.

Are you by chance a member of the royal society for putting things on top of other things?

Just received this... setting it up as a gift for my father. I like everything (keeping in mind its a $499 laptop).

The only con so far is the screen is "ok"... compared to my MacBook Pro with M3 Pro, it is visibily less vibrant. But thats a $3k computer vs a $500 computer. I would definitely purchase this again for a child in college or someone who just needs to browse the internet and email, etc.

They are in no way more delicate. You're just making things up. Or did you hear it in a YouTube review?

This has been known to happen with glass touchscreen, plastic laptops, no rubber cushion.
Any pressure result in malfunction or crackscreen.

Just ask any repair shop with high volume of consumer laptops. It doesn't happen with a ThinkPad, Latitude

Believing everything a repair shop says makes you an easy target for snake oil. Last time someone was trying to sell me a cabin air filter for $50.
