Since I know people wander onto these headphone deals not realizing these are (budget) audiophile cans for critical listening: these headphones are wired only (no bluetooth or wireless connections of any kind), have no form of active noise cancelling, have extremely poor sound isolation (you can hear whats going on around you, and everyone around you can hear what you're listening to), and are slightly bulky. They are not designed for portable use.
In terms of sound quality this is pretty much as good as you'll get in an over ear headphone at $60. I'd say they meaningfully beat out the venerable philips shp9500 at this price (especially with the notable benefit of replaceable earpads). Eq (equalization) is generally recommended to tamp down the high bass hump bleeding into the mids if you're not a fan of the overly warm tonality. As with most open back headphones (particularly in the budget price range) there is a deficiency in bass, bass can be increased with eq but don't go overboard since there's a fair amount of distortion at low frequencies if you push it. An amp is generally unnecessary for these headphones unless you're very heavy handed with eq or listen at absurdly high volumes. As open back headphones, soundstage will be substantially superior to similarly priced on ear or closed back headphones. While the build is entirely plastic, the sennheiser 5** series is renowned for longevity and durability.
Overall, if you're looking to dip your toes into audiophile headphones and are willing to purchase refurbished, the hd 599 se are an excellent value at $60.
