$249 for new number
Doesn't include tax, which might be on MSRP price of $730.
Most likely will need their $60 plan, so you'd be paying $720, just about MSRP, after a year of service.
Not only that, but they might charge in store activation and upsell you on accessories or other things like insurance.
Porting out is a hassle and requires calling in and requesting a port-out PIN. Cannot generate the PIN on the site or by texting like other carriers/MVNOs.
You come out slightly ahead doing this deal. Total cost $869 when doing $720 for $60/mo for 12 months plus $149 for port in, other $969 for new number. However Boost does charge taxes/fees on their plans, so it's a bit more than $60. Normally a few dollars tops.
Assuming a $25/mo plan elsewhere and buying outright at $730, total cost after a year is $1030.
Despite what the site says, the device does not unlock automatically after a year of active/continuous service, and I had to contact chat for them to submit a ticket when I got the iPhone 12. It was unlocked hours after that.
tl;dr slightly better off doing this deal than buying outright and going with a cheaper plan. But if you want a different color and more storage, it's worth it to pay a little extra and you do come out ahead sometime in the second year due to the plan price difference.
