I got a TD17kvx a few years ago and love it. The mesh heads are so responsive it's like cheating. Aside from the improved functionality and pads and cymbals on this unit one of the big things I notice is how much cleaner the interface is on the controller compared to the TD17 with discreet knobs for common functions rather than using the spinning wheel for adjustments.

Here is a great vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiH6cCu1pDU

Echoing @levinworth, I also got this a few years ago. This is my first e-kit and I can't go back to regular acoustic kits. Pairing your phone to the kit via Bluetooth and being able to play along is like therapy.

Picked up this exact deal from Adorama a few months ago and I absolutely love it. Just a heads up, you will need to purchase hit hat and snare stands. If you've been on the fence about buying this kit, this is the time to grab it.

Does anyone know how to play the game rock band with one of these? Does it connect directly to PC? Or do you go the Xbox route? What software is needed?

You want the roll limitless adapter
rolllimitless.com

Supports multiple firmware images so you can support Xbox 1, PS5, PS4, 360, etc. Amazing piece of tech. I own two (one for my e-kit and one for RB 360 guitar to xb1)

Was thinking about pulling the trigger, but read there's a good chance of a price drop at the end of December (this kit is midcycle and that's usually when Roland does it).

I've been tracking these prices with half an ear for a while. It might be worth noting that Adorama's Roland sales are meaningfully cheaper than competitors like Sweetwater or Guitar Center. It's not certain to me that if the MSRP goes down even by $500 that a deal this good will be readily available at other retailers. (That said, this deal will probably come and go at Adorama as it has been doing for a while.)

Absolutely, you're right, but at the same time, Adorama should be able to lower theirs a bit more. Even this deal on this model isn't as good as previous ones (they previously included a throne). I was hoping this time around (being Black Friday), that Adorama would sweeten the deal, but unfortunately it wasn't the case, so I'll wait for the price drops and see what happens.

If that is what you want to do I would suggest going with a much cheaper alternative, such as the Roland TD-10. These are excellent V-Drums, I bought them on the last sale and I am extremely pleased with them. If all you want to do is play Rock Band with it that would be a very expensive set to do it on when a much cheaper set offers the same functionality you are looking for.

Well playing Rock Band isn't ALL I want to do. I want a top of the line set and I can afford it. I was just asking how people are accomplishing this.

Look into clone hero and get a USB-B to USB-A MIDI cable to plug into your PC. Clone hero is free and songs are readily available, many of them with the drum tracks directly from old GH/RB games.
