The DiscoverIt card finally has value this quarter for those that also have Target and Prime 5% cards. (Amazon & Target are Q4 5% categories.)

Edit: I did a chat on discover.com and asked if I could get a retention offer since I was considering cancelling and immediately got offered a bonus 3% extra Cashback for three months effective the next day. Worth a shot to get 8% CB with your Discover card instead of 5!

No. Target GCs do not get a 5% discount using the Red Card. But Discover Card will payback 5% for Target purchases this quarter.

A lot of times online gift cards are processed through a 3rd party, are we sure buying gift cards on target.com will trigger the 5%?
Is this your first time? Target 10% has been running for years and it has always worked physical or email on discover

I ain't buying gift cards no more. Very difficult to keep track.
Thats exactly what they are counting on. It's better than a costco membership which is pure profit, no overhead. Imagine printing your own money, and a certain percentage of it gets lost.

Be careful if you buy physical gift cards and have them shipped to you. I've had two stolen from me while in route. One from Best Buy and the other from Target. All you receive is an envelope with a slit in it and the gift card missing. Seems these carriers know what to look for and if your package runs into the wrong package handler along the way you become a victim.
^^ True dat. For whatever brainless reason, and it's likely because they don't care, Costco shipped their P&G rebate cash cards to me in very problematic envelopes, I think the return address even said "Costco Cash Card" and you could easily see the outline of the card. Guess what happened? They disappeared at the post office.

In an odd twist, I went to costco to report the loss. They were going to issue another card there, but it got messed up for a bit. Apparently the cards had been cashed there, that day, a few hours earlier. I said cool let's pull the register tape and bust the clown. They gave me another card and said they have ways to handle it. I am sure the culprit said, Oh I found these one the ground near the post office, the address was destroyed, I brought them here. Whatever. I'm glad costco stood up, but this was clearly an unforced error on their part, and it took a lot of time and effort for a lot of people to recover 2x$25. I will never do that P&G rebate again, for many reasons, this is one.

We bought 10 GCs last year, gave out 7, 2 out the three left had empty balance. Brought to the store and they said there was a problem in the system as many people were complaining, and told us to call corporation. Called customer service and were told to go to store. Gave up after multiple back and forth attempts. The worst thing was we didn't even know how many out of the seven that we gave out had money. Never again.
This exact thing JUST happened to me!! Their new gift card process is absolutely TERRIBLE! You take the cards to the register and they have the barcode stickers on a roll which they peel and apply now. Then they have to scratch them off and scan. However, scanning was such a problem and showed errors etc multiple times when the cashier was trying to apply them. Sometimes it worked if she scratched it more or blew off the crumbs , but it held up the line behind me badly. I gave them out to my kids' teachers and secretaries etc in the same week and one of them called to let me know the card was not working and gave me the card back to see if I can recoup the money. I stood in a long line at target only to be told to call corporate. Corporate told me to go back to the store. The worst is that i don't know how many of the others didn't work! I still haven't been able to get my money back. What a headache!

It's standard 5% on Amazon purchases.

This is exactly what I'm worried about. Are store bought physical GCs safe? If yes I would probably do that because we hand out these GCs to teachers and some friends and I would be very disappointed if the cards have zero balance on them.

Not everyone has a Target that's local to them such as myself.

Anyone using this to buy a ps5 pro? Does using the gift card method reduce the tax on the ps5 price?

No it's easy picking for the crook. Comes already activated in most cases. Like shipping money. If you just order one or two they come in a small padded manila envelope that's very lightweight and easily recognizable.

It does not. It applies just as a payment method.

Risky - physical cards may get stolen during the mail journey, some cards had 0 / ZERO balance last year. Worried about if the cards we gifted were 0 too. Buy it online, if you want to do immediate purchase. Add to your account online and enjoy the savings! For gift purpose it's a risk

I'm pretty sure I was able to make multiple purchases in previous years, but it looks like they are restricting it to one transaction per account this year, so make sure you carefully think about how many gift cards you need, and buy them in a single transaction. I suppose you could create additional Target Circle accounts if you decide you want to buy more.

Buying in store is more risky given the GC scam is so common now.
