I beg to differ. I have tried to activate a Mint 3-month SIM about 4 months after purchase, but the automated process errored out. I tried convincing Customer Service to assist, but was ultimately denied.

Because it's a 3-month plan.

Sim kits directly FROM Mint expire 45 days after purchase. Sim kits from BB and Target are YMMV. If they aren't drop shipped from Mint directly, odds are good you can activate beyond 45 days. Many have.

Buy 2 sim kits. Activate one whenever you want with a new phone number. When activated, service starts and is good for 3 months. When 3 months coming to an end, activate second card with new phone number. Use for another 3 months. Rinse repeat. You must get a new phone number each time as you cannot transfer your first number to the second sim card. If you have google voice then it doesn't matter how many times you get a new number because you have your real phone number with Google voice and any calls just get forwarded to the new "fake" number you just got because you can change your forwarding number every time within Google voice so that you're fake phone number will ring when someone calls your real number. This way you can take advantage of any deal at any time.

I will not take the risk of not able to activating 2nd sim, as Mint mobile claim it need to be activated with 45 days. Deals will always come, I will hold for next deal. Use google voice and you can always get new deal new number, do not matter.

I don't understand why people are using any other provider. Mint is so cheap and we have had zero problems.

Why are people paying so much for Verizon or ATT???
There have lots of company offer cheaper service than mint, and with google voice, you can always take promotional card and switch to other deals.

That's fine but no risk no reward. The 45 days is for purchasing directly from the mint website. The overwhelming amount of user reports their SIM cards purchased from Target or Best buy activating with no problems well beyond 45 days should be your clue but you can bring a horse to water only.

I just activated a Mint SIM card purchased from Best Buy on August 22, 2024, without any issues. I have consistently had no problems activating Mint SIM cards, even several months after purchasing them from either Best Buy or Target

Thanks for sharing. I did successfully activate the SIM in this August which I bought last Christmas. However, as the post mentioned, policy could have been changed... I just don't understand how Mint can track the purchase date if we buy the SIMs from Target/Bestbuy...

Oh sorry. YMMV if you have a Capital One Cafe near you.

Capital One Cafe, go there and there's a some survey thing. You fill it out and enter the phone and you'll get a text for the one hand crafted coffee for free QR code.

use one for mint, one for Google voice. = $7 x 2 = $14

I've already used up all of my friends and family phone numbers.

You may not have problems. It has problems for me. I did this 2 years ago and also tried ATT.

1. Coverage not as wide
2. Speed not as fast
3. I tether all the time and I have 50GB and sometimes I go to 100GB/month tether usage.
4. I have other devices and there are some discounts.

I tried AT&T, the coverage was utter garbage where I need to go. Some areas where I need to be for hours per day did not have coverage? like wtf!!!! Verizon never had issues. I tried mint on my spare phone there too and coverage was even more spotty. utter crap. if I cannot get notifications and data access, it's foolking useless no matter how cheap it is.

I know things evolve over time but ATT sucked too so I switched back to Verizon. I don't want to deal with signal issues. I'll just make more money and reliability *FOR ME* and where I am using the cell signals and tone of 5G bandwidth for tethering.

Yes there are people definitely overpaying but don't assume what works for you works for others.

I may pick up the 4 iPhone 16 Pro 128GB free with $30 per line = $120 a month deal and get $800 in gift cards to soften the blow. Free phone... I just need to work out how much I am spending on other other cheap phone plans to do the math.

$30 a month on Verzion + free phone + $200 gift card per line? that's gotta be better than Mint voice and data for $30 a month no?

Thats why super carriers like US Mobile is so reliable at different locations for best quality of service. You can switch towers same day.

The problem is eSim and if you want to get back to your original provider without them charging you for initial setup again.

Can this be used to "load" a current number with Mint?

No need if Verizon works perfectly fine for me.

and I can still use my 50-100GB 5G tether. and have my real hotspot as well for extended use and can walk away from the devices tethering to me.

I don't need a backup if places I go have great coverage and that's why I keep a Verizon.

If I need 24/7 coverage more bullet proof cellular, I'd get a secondary carrier but I don't have that kind of job that needs that.
