When I was a little kid my dad (who loves the Alien movies) would tell me the storyline to the first Alien movie, probably because he thought it was so interesting. I remember being really fascinated by it. Of course he never actually let me watch it until much later, in my late teens. So now I am a huge fan too. I tell my kids a few elements from grown up movies that I find interesting even though they won't watch them for awhile. They'll be fine.

For the right audience, this looks funny.
Just because it's based on an adult property doesn't mean it is automatically inappropriate for kids. If you look at the expected audience for the book, it's ages 2+
There are also similar children's books for Jaws and Jurassic Park, which are aimed at children and very much water down the approach to reach that audience.
I didn't get the $5 promo code though, that would have been cool to have; I wonder if yours was exclusive to you or something.

Yea yea "cool story bro."

I saw Aliens and The Transformers:The Movie in theaters in 1986 (I was 6 and absolutely badgered my mom until she gave in), but Transformers was far more traumatic since they essentially killed every original character in a horrible way.
That theater was a symphony of crying children with bewildered parents.
It's okay though, we're all fine now..... mostly.
