Ah yes... mystery "stainless steel" blade. Read the reviews. Not a good knife.

It's 7cr17MoV, not mystery, which is acceptable at this price point. Quality control seems to be the biggest issue with this knife from the reviews I've watched. Sounds like if you get a decent copy, it's a pretty good deal, especially if you get free Prime shipping to sweeten the deal. I like look and styling and the slimness of the knife and the Tanto style blade, I've just got too many inexpensive budget knives as it is, or I'd be tempted to jump on this deal. Gerber uses a lot of this particular blade steel, and their heat treatment is usually decent.

I read every word of the Amazon listing, and nowhere does it specify the blade steel. Did I miss it? That, and the reviews are scathing.

Nope, I don't see it either on that particular Amazon listing, but I was watching this same knife on sale at AtlanticKnife.com [atlanticknife.com] where it's been on sale for a couple dollars more with free shipping for a bit. They list the steel type, as does Gerber's website, so I knew it was 7Cr17MoV.

I wasn't trying to call you out or anything like that, and it annoys me too when sellers don't list the blade steel. I always assume it because they are trying to hide using ultra low end steels like 3cr, 4cr or 420J2. But, for this kind of money, I would accept Gerber's 7Cr17MoV since I like the overall styling of the knife, despite some of the reviews indicated QC issues with this model. And, if I didn't already have more budget knives than I know what to do with. I'm at the point now where I really should buy fewer knives and save my money for nicer, more mid-tier knives, but the habit is hard to break when I spot a deal.

I hear you there, and I also like the style of the knife. It is just always a red flag to me when the steel is not listed.

Gerber got the styling right, IMHO, I just wish they would upgrade the steels they use and work on their QC a bit, but I guess compromises have to be made to bring a budget product to market. Some of their knives are overpriced for what you get, but at this price point I've got to give the deal a thumbs up.

Amazon kicked this knife back up to $25, but still available in various color options at Atlantic Knife starting at $16.95 with free shipping. [atlanticknife.com] I've purchased from Atlantic knife (no affiliation) several times and they are reliable.
