I got these during the last sale for a similar price, and I regret getting them. They are watery and don't taste very good. Even Kroger's generic refried beans tastes so much better than this. If you compare water contents, you can confirm that El Paso contains higher water than better refried beans. The only benefit is, it's easier to get it out of the can, but at the cost of quality...

I remember the quality on these going down the drain the last time I tried them over a year ago. I love making my own beans but I honestly get lazy. These I didn't mind every so often, I even tried other brands and they weren't the same as before either.

Is it still that way or did the quality get better?

Mine came out okay the last time I ordered. The problem was I added a Blu-ray as a filler item to get free shipping. The Blu-ray case didn't stand a chance when the movie was packed in the same shipping box. The problem I have is Amazon shipper don't necessary heed with caution when you have fragile items with much heavier content.

They are still TERRIBLE - flavorless now, and a weird, almost whipped consistency. Amy's organic refried beans (thought they're vegetarian) are worlds better and taste very close to the OG old El Paso. They are all I buy now.
