He meant better built laptops. CPU won't be as new with a refurb business laptop but most people won't feel the difference. When that cheap IdeaPad chassis cracks or a hinge breaks, you'll definitely feel it. Plus you're looking at that nasty TN screen until it breaks. You'll also be typing on a squishy and flexible keyboard.
If it breaks, most of the time, the replacement components are difficult to find, especially if the broken thing is on the chassis.
Consider that for daily tasks, a 7 year old 8th gen Core i5 is still very much usable in 2024 with enough RAM to go with it, the longevity of the chassis, the quality of the screen, upgradability and repairability is what's going determine when the laptop needs replacement.
You can look at used ThinkPad T14/T16 Gen 2s and Latitude 7420s on eBay for this price range. I literally tried to link some listings but got mod-warned for the links lol. But you can easily find some yourself. Basically, if you're on a budget, refurb business laptops are a better bet for most people than new e-waste.

TY for this, Mods removing links they don't make $ off, it's a shame how it's become here.

Deals are only removed for quality reasons. dkd711 wasn't posting anything shady, but there is a minimum feedback policy for ebay sellers posted to Hot Deals to avoid spam and vintage burgers.

I got this new for $100 at Microcenter. At around $200, I also think you should look for a display that is IPS. The screen is the worst part of this laptop. Unfortunately, my 5 key also requires a hard push to register as well so there is some quality control issues. I do like Lenovo has a smart battery feature to hold the charge around 70-80% to help the battery last longer. Is it probably easier to find a new battery for a business laptop like a Thinkpad? I think so but at the price I got for $100 I don't mind.
