Holy wow I'm pissed. I bought this computer last week because it was a good deal, and now it's on sale even more (maybe because of all the buyers complaining about the SSD BSOD issue)! Now this is a bonafide steal for a prebuilt. Of course, Walmart is refusing to partially refund me per their policy which sucks. Guess I'll have to reset/repackage/return/reorder.

Anyways, here's my post from the other thread that can help people that are worried about the SSD BSOD issue (check your SSD first to make sure you have the faulty Western Digital one - otherwise this guide is pointless for you):

"Here's the configuration I got:

Motherboard: MSI Pro B650 VC - Wifi
GPU: XFX 7900GRE
RAM: T-Force Vulcan 2x16GB DDR5
Cooling: Hybrid AIO CyberpowerPC branded cooling system. CPU is liquid cooled, but the case also has RGB fans around the exterior too. Fans are soft to moderately loud. When on full blast they sound like a softish white noise machine, which I actually kind of liked.
Hard Drive: Western Digital (WD) Blue SN580 2TB SSD
PSU: Didn't bother checking. It works. Maybe I'll bother unscrewing the cover and checking later.

Noted that the GPU was sagging in the slot so I had to order a $10 GPU support brace to prevent any excess warping (it's a big GPU).

Super easy to dodge the SSD crashing issue. I booted up the computer and set up Windows 11 without connecting to the internet. You can also gamble on setting up W11 with internet if you want. (sounds like some people have had success, others haven't) Here's a quick guide on how to do that:

1: When you reach the setup portion asking for internet, you can press SHIFT+F10 keys to open Command Prompt.
2: Execute OOBE\BYPASSNRO command in the Command Prompt.
3: After executing this command, Microsoft setup will reboot the computer. After the reboot, you'll get a new button option on the same part of the setup asking about connecting that says I don't have Internet or Continue with limited setup to skip the Internet requirement (it's in small text that's hard to see because Microsoft wants your sweet sweet data). This will allow you to set up the computer with a local ID and password without needing a Microsoft account, and complete the install without connecting to the internet.

That let me set up Windows 11 without internet, likely on the software version that CyberpowerPC set up the computer on that convinced them the computer was good to ship. I had no crashing.

At this point, you could connect to the internet and try to grab the WD SSD firmware update before your computer updates Windows and/or crashes. Of course WD have their own dumb launcher/hub just like every other tech company, so you'll need to grab that to update the hard drive. Here's the link to that (creds to cardcrush on an earlier post on this thread): https://support-en.wd.com/app/ans...l#subject3

You can get the online version if you're connected to the internet, otherwise use another computer to download the offline version to a USB. Copy it to your new computer, install it. Open it up, give it a bit of time to scan your computer (it might look like it freezes for a bit). Then once it recognizes your SSD, an option should pop up under one of the various tabs/menus in the WD hub notifying you that there's an update available. I can't remember if I had to be connected to the internet (I don't think I had to be, since I used the offline install hub). Took a few seconds to update to a newer firmware version, and that was that.

The whole process took me like 10 minutes to do. After that I updated Windows and got all the other various driver/security updates installed (only thing I didn't update to was the newest Windows 24H2 preview - but I think the problem with the SSD became an issue before that was released). Been using the computer intermittently the last two days. No issues with crashing. Only game I've tested atm is Marvel Rivals at 1440p (runs fine on high settings with no issues). Glad Walmart is accepting returns until January 31st at least!

Hope this helps! I'll update this post if things change."
I was one of the people having the BSOD problem. For what it's worth, I emailed Cyberpower about it and they very promptly confirmed it should be addressed with the firmware upgrade and provided instructions, which I did and have not had a problem with it since then. Honestly I went from super frustrated to pretty pleased with it. If I could do it all again at $200 less and knowing up front what the exact problem was going to be and how to fix it, it would be a no-brainer purchase.

What BIOS version does everyone with the MSI B650-VC have?

Mines shows E7D78AMS.1C0 with a build date of 02/06/2024.

I think it matches up to the "7D78v1C" version listed on the MSI website. There's been 8 new updates since then, but I don't know how much of a difference they would make to this system.

Are there any recommended settings to change in BIOS to lower the fan noise?

At idle these the PC fans sound really loud. These are the fan speeds I am seeing.

CPU: 890 RPM
PUMP: 3022 RPM
SYS1: 1526 RPM
3022 RPM is 100% fan speed check if its set to Auto instead of PWM and smart fan mode in bios

if its 3 pin fan instead of 4 pin fan will have use DC mode and control it by voltage.

Let me check that out if I can get back in to BIOS. When the keyboard powers on I press delete and the screen just shows "No Signal".

I think it might be the liquid cooler that is the source of the noise. I initially thought it was one of the fans vibrating, but after removing the side panel the noise is coming from the liquid cooler. The best way to describe it would be a 'rattling' noise.

These are the fan settings and current speeds in the BIOS.

CPU 1: Auto (Smart Fan Mode is checked) - 1020 RPM

PUMP 1: PWM (Smart Fan Mode is unchecked) - 3022 RPM

System 1: DC (Smart Fan Mode is unchecked) - 1520 RPM

ASRock MB has (3) m.2 slots for NVMe extra on back of motherboard. While MSI MB only has 2 on front.

The 2TB Adata is slower 3500/2800 than 2TB SN580 4150/4150
How do you add an SSD to the back of the motherboard? Do you have to unscrew it completely or is there an easier way? I don't see direct access from the back.

The XFX website cautions against updating the bios for the graphics card/mono combo. I learned the hard way, updated to the latest bios and got a VGA error. Had to roll back to the AGESA version XFX recommends.

Your fan settings are Ok, too. You want the pump at 100%. You can drop the curves on the case fans to ~ 1000 rpm and it should cool just fine.

You can go into the bios and disable the iGPU.
Can you share the path to get to this in BIOS ? I don't want to turn on/off something unrelated

I have this weird issue with the monitor. If I turn off the monitor, while PC is still on, then try to turn on the monitor again it keeps scanning for HDMI signal from the PC. Then if I unplug HDMI to PC and plug it back in then can see the screen again.

Any solutions for this?
My guess would be to try another HDMI cord.

Received mine today:
  • MSI Pro B650-VC with Wi-Fi 6E
  • APEIV 850 Watt Gold 80 Plus
  • Radeon RX 7900 GRE
  • MFG Date: 08-09-24

It's a Christmas present for my kid so boxed it back up without turning it on.

Researching the board, looks like it supports 2.5 Gig LAN. Great for helping future proof.

I have never seen a motherboard with M.2 slots in the back, can you show any link with references from your statement? Honestly doesn't make any sense also almost impossible

I thought it was weird also. Asrock's website says there is only two M.2 slots.

Don't reset windows, go into the bios, use the secure erase function. This will wipe the drive leaving no trace of your illegal activities.
I haven't done anything illegal in 2 days lol. I just download RE4 Remake, Horizon zero Dawn, Batman Arkham, and like 5 other games from my Steam account, they can have them if they want idc
