How does this compare to this one https://www.bestbuy.com/site/appl...Id=6534615 that is occasionally $1499? The air has more RAM at 24 vs 16 on Pro, but the Pro has more CPU at 12 vs 8 on the Air. Not sure which to prioritize btwn these two.

Same question. Why would you spend money on this when you can get the M4 pro for $1399 sometimes?

While I'd like a Pro processor and a 120hz screen of the MBP, I'm personally going to get a MBA simply because it's much lighter and portable. I also really value the fact that it has no fan.

I'm thinking 24GB of RAM because if Apple Intelligence needs 8gig, 24 gigs is probably best for the million chrome tabs I keep open.
I'm just wondering when the M4 Air will come out and if it will be affecting by new tariffs or not.

So that's my thought process, anyhow.

Apparently it can have two fans on some configurations. It's one of the reasons the even non-pro M chips are faster in the MBP versus the MPA

I do not see instacart option when I at Check out screen for Best Buy. only Paypal

  2. No one using an Air needs 24GB RAM. If you need 24GB RAM then you are doing gaming or editing media, which, yes, the Air can do, but it's not it's forte, hence the "pro" models for which media editing is it's "bread and butter." So even if you are "saving" $200, I doubt you'll actually use the entire 24GB RAM...ever. If you were then you'd be buying an M4 Pro chip or better MacBook Pro.
  3. This model will be axed in March or April when the M4 Air comes out with 16GB RAM standard
  4. So... I'd suggest either holding off until then, at which time the M3 Air will get a bigger discount as well or find an entry level M4 MacBook Pro which is essential an Air with more ports, better screen (but more weight).

You forgot devs who need lots of ram to run VMs or environments. The Air is a perfectly capable Xcode (or other) dev machine and remains lightweight/efficient.

Maybe but the Air has fewer ports and again an inferior screen to even the entry level Pro which is often close to this price on sale. Like I said in my original post, if you need 24GB RAM you are doing things where a Pro is going to be a much better fit.

My wife is a researcher who has an insane amount of tabs open in Safari at all times, we're talking 50+. Also tons with Google docs/sheets, Canva, Gmail, etc. So a large memory footprint, but tiny CPU and GPU usage. She also carries the thing everywhere and never hooks up to external displays. This Macbook Air is a great fit for her.
