500 points are just not worth the time spent dealing with all the USPS mailings with credit card offers you'll get - you're signing up for marketing from them.

This says 1.3 cents per mile. But that's just an estimate. They're only worth something if you're going to use them. If you don't fly Alaska much, you may never have enough miles to use them.

It's a premium credit card. As a holder of multiple premium cards, I'd be "ecstatic" if the fee was only $395. The point is you exceed the value of the fee every year (if you do it right). The new Alaska card is supposed to come with a global companion pass. That alone probably outdoes the annual fee if you travel annually. Add to that: sign up mileage bonus, Alaska club access and probably additional perks? It sounds pretty easy to get the annual fee value back.

Also if you already have an AA credit card and are thinking of trying to maximize your rewards...forget it.

From the Terms Page fine print:
Offer available for new Alaska Airlines Premium Credit card accounts only. Cardholders upgrading from an existing Alaska Airlines consumer credit card are not eligible for this offer. Offer fulfilled by Alaska Airlines.

Where are you guys finding a 70k mileage signup bonus with 3k spend? I just was approved for this card yesterday and the best I could find was 65,000 for 4k spend
It's ebb and flow as far as promos. 60k has been the standard. 65k-70k were better offers. Note that new signups since January 2023, you have to spend 6k in order to get your 2nd year companion pass.

Alaska has pretty solid point value for flights from west coast to Europe on Condor, especially in high-cost periods. I flew a one-way from Frankfurt to LAX for 25k points + $179 (and fees are always less if flying USA to Europe).... recently I've seen flights around 35k points, not sure if it will drop below that again for certain routes / periods :/ Can still be useful though.
I love Alaska but I flew condor from pdx to frankfurt and it was a complete sh1tshow with the condor airport staff. The plane itself was great but getting on was rough. Hopefully that was because they were new to pdx at the time and it's gotten better.

Wonder what the SUB will be. I was thinking of opening a new AA card since it's not easy to earn miles if you aren't flying Alaska since they don't participate in some of the credit card transfer programs. Alaska has had some awesome mileage usage on American flights.

Completely agree. In addition. "

The card will offer Alaska Lounge passes and inflight Wi-Fi passes" i think that's totally worth it. Considering the lounge alone would be a great way to escape the other lounges. inflight wifi is a bonus. I think the value will come with those kinds of perks that add up.
For the $95 card I thought this lounge pass was a perk but actually it is $100 off the annually pass.

AA is American Airlines. The code for Alaska is AS.

Alaska airlines is the worst… cheap seats, unreliable planes, and awful customer service. I'd rather walk than use this airline again.

About 6 months ago I was on a plane from ID to PA. Sat on the runway for over an hour and a half while they tried to make repairs.
Eventually they had everyone get off the plane. Wait another hour for them to find a new plane, we boarded and had another technical difficulty. After another hour they had everyone get off the plane again and advised us to go to another terminal to board the next plane. Arrived to the terminal to find out the flight was cancelled.
Waited in the terminal for another 10 hours until the next flight was available. Worst experience ever
This is a premium card targeted to frequent enough travelers that they would know your anecdote could happen on most any airline. Flight logistics are challenging because of intense regulation, and it sucks when stuff like that happens to you but ultimately there is a lot of physicality to aviation, so the way to avoid it would be to cut corners on safety. Better to accept that you were one of the unlucky few that day and let it go

Does this mean you just won't get the 500 points? Or you won't be eligible for the 5000 points? Or any sign on bonus with the new card?

None of the above.

It simply means that you don't/can't get the bonus by product changing an existing AS credit card to the forthcoming premium card.

My experiences with Alaska Airlines have always been excellent. Flights were on time, crew was extremely courteous, and there were no delays or hiccups. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Go to the link that the OP posted and scroll to the bottom, the 70k offer was there. Additionally, if you fly with them, they often times throw in more points if i you sign up during the flight.

If you didn't know there is a unique spending opportunity from Amex Membership Rewards to Alaska Air transfers for the first time ever. With the merging of Hawaiian and Alaska you can now temporarily transfer AMEX MR to Hawaiian and then free transfer 1x1 to Alaska. This is the first time you have been able to transfer AMEX to Alaska for their superior partner redemptions. I just booked 2 round trips to Peru on LATAM lie flat from Alaska redemption using the Amex to Hawaiian to Alaska transfer for 70K miles each Amex miles. There are better deals you can find but we wanted to go to Peru and Delta is charging over 220,000 miles currently for these flights so using the milage transfers you get the same flights for one third of the DL price.
