Steam has Steam Deck OLED Handheld Gaming PCs (Certified Refurbished) on sale as listed below. Shipping is free.

Thanks to Deal Hunter Eragorn for finding this deal.

Available Options:
  • 512GB $439
  • 1TB $519
All Certified Refurbished Steam Decks include:
  • The same one year warranty as a new Steam Deck (unless longer as determined by your country of residence)
  • A refurbished power supply - fully tested (may have minor cosmetic marks)
  • Carrying case and Quick Start guide
Features:
  • Portability meets power. We partnered with AMD to create Steam Deck's custom APU, optimized for handheld gaming. It is a Zen 2 + RDNA 2 powerhouse, delivering more than enough performance to run the latest AAA games in a very efficient power envelope.
  • Your Steam Library, anywhere. Once you've logged into Steam Deck, your entire Steam Library shows up, just like any other PC. You'll also see the compatibility rating of each game, indicating the kind of experience you can expect when playing. You can dynamically filter any view in your library by compatibility rating if you're looking for specific sorts of experiences.
  • Control with comfort. The Steam Deck was built for extended play sessions—whether you're using thumbsticks or trackpads—with full-size controls positioned perfectly within your reach. The rear of the device is sculpted to comfortably fit a wide range of hand sizes.

Steam refurbs are actual refurbished, meaning they are fully restored to the point of looking undistinguishable from brand new. They have an in depth restoration process, unlike other vendors or retailers who sell all returns as refurbished regardless of condition.
You don't really have to "hack" it to play roms. It's just like a computer, just install whatever emulators and games you want on it. There's a program called emudeck that installs all the emulators and helps you set it all up.
Yeah let me just put fiber optic internet on my next 12 hour flight to Australia.

I would love to get this but I have a huge library of games on epic vs my steam account. Is installing windows and playing games on epic easy on these? Will it perform as well as native steam OS?
You can play your epic library of games on steamOs. Only thing you can't play is fornite because of anti cheat.

I had the LCD 512GB. Is it worth to upgrade to OLED version?

Wait for 2nd gen WITH an oled screen. Just hold strong.

I wished Gabe wasn't so scared and just released it with oled ready to go for the first gen... Or least provided a way to buy a part to replace the LCD with an oled
Will come out for $700 at least. You will need to wait a year after to get it on discount.

I've had the LCD unit since launch and I'm finally upgrading to the OLED. At this price (512GB) I should be able to sell my old unit and it's just $100 upgrade.

I don't think gen 2 is coming before late 2026 and I use the Deck every day.

Great device but the hardware is getting pretty long in the tooth. Rumors are the next Steam deck may come out in 2025 or early 2026. These are unfounded but I am in no hurry and willing to wait for the tech to get a bit better for something a little more powerful and hopefully lightweight
Yeah, struggling to convince myself to upgrade from my LCD one. Specially when Legion and ROG with better hardware are around same price on sale.

Only thing making me lean towards getting it is the battery life, that I want to support Steam/Valve, and that SteamOS is better than what the ROG and Legion have.

The ROG Ally form factor feels way better than the Steamdeck. It feels smaller, less heavy, and easier to play with. I have found playing more on the Ally than the Steamdeck when playing at home. It also has a better CPU and GPU. The downside is that it uses Windows 11 and it doesn't feel like a gaming device in terms of the OS. SteamOS is way better in my opinion. But running Windows gives you the benefit of more games compatibility.

The SteamDeck, while it lower specs the battery last longer, thus why I tend to take this one on the road. SteamOS makes it feel like a gaming device while giving you the flexibility of switching to desktop mode.

Also worth mentioning all the hardware issues the ROG Ally has and the poor customer service Asus has when it comes to warranty claims.

On a similar point, based on previous experience with Valve/Steam I know for sure they will be supporting the SteamDeck for a long time. Asus on the other hand my experience is that they tend to drop support of their products and leave customers hanging. Specially if the product sales don't do too well or they lose the market.

If I had to choose one again I would go with the Steamdeck mostly because I'm biased towards wanting Valve, Steam, and SteamOS become a strong competitor and gain more market. Also because I know Valve and the community will keep this device alive for a long time.

If both were exactly the same price and a friend was asking for a recommendation I would probably say got with an ROG Ally though.

If you just want buy one, quickly set it up and start playing games then the steamdeck. If you dont mind some tinkering and the most compatibility/performance then the ally.

My buddy has a steam deck that I used a few times, but I opted to buy an ally x because I felt it was just to late in the life cycle of the steamdeck to pick one up now. I swapped the ssd in the Ally x and dual boot bazzite and windows to get the best of both worlds, but it took ~3 days of downloading/installing/tweaking to get everything running the way I wanted it. My wife also has a thunderbolt dock with an ultrawide monitor so I can just use it like a little PC for non gaming tasks too.

I don't see a reason to upgrade from a LCD deck.

Clearly you've never loaded ROM's on to the Deck. [youtube.com]
