I think the deal for Bitdefender Total Security for 5 users for 1 year for $14.99 (coupon give $30 off) is a better deal. I used it to extend my subscription. for another year. It gives you the choice to extend your current subscription (if you have an active one) or to start a new subscription. If you want to protect 5 more devices that weren't protected by your other subscrition, you would choose this option. https://www.newegg.com/bitdefende...6832719259

Looks like it does. The Family pack also has the following extra: "Check if your online accounts have been involved in any data breach. Account Privacy notifies you when your sensitive data is at risk, and lets you take action depending on its status."
The Newegg product page has a comparison table, if you are curious.
Thanks. I tried the comparison table and it doesn't compare features. Compares descriptions and requirements.

For those unfamiliar with this software, I switched from McAfee to this about three months ago. Unbeknownst to me at the time was a feature that allows one to completely wipe any installed pc from the users bitdefender website portal. There is no option to disable this feature. That means any pc with an installed license can be completely destroyed with access to the portal, regardless of whether the pc is owned or operated by the designated licensee. While they do offer two factor id option to diffuse a miscreant from gaining unauthorized access, it still left me extremely uncomfortable knowing my entire family's pc network, regardless of location, could be wiped clean either by intent or accident from this one portal. Since I was denied a refund as it was a Newegg downloaded product, I chose to only install it on 1 unit as opposed to the multiple ones I bought it for. Just an fyi.

Thanks. I was about to buy it when I saw your comment. That is the dangerous feature. I will stick to N360.

It's only dangerous if you are. You should be using multifactor authentication and preventing others from accessing Bitdefender Central.

This 'danger' you think is problematic is a 'security feature' in case you lose control of a device you are protecting:

Anti-theft:
Remotely locate, lock, wipe or send a message to your device

I oversee an IT group that manages thousands of endpoints using tools that have the same/similar features (Microsoft Intune, IBM Maas 360) and it's an accepted risk that those entrusted to manage the devices aren't going to stupidly wipe a computer, phone, point of sale terminal, etc.

It's kind of comical that a potentially useful and desirable security feature is being considered 'dangerous'. It's only as dangerous as the administrator. Do you not trust yourself to not go thru the layers of mouse-clicks it will take to execute this dangerous action? It's not like you could accidentally trip on the mousepad and carry out the necessary actions to cause and accidental wipe.

If you're sharing your Bitdefender LICENSE you do NOT need to share access to Bitdefender Central. If you're sharing your BD Central account, you shouldn't share it with someone who can't be trusted to NOT go thru the layers of mouse clicks and screens to 'accidentally' wipe a device.

Their renewal requirements are stupid. They refuse to let me add another year key to an existing Bitdefender account. I bought 50 1yr licenses during the $.10 sale (yes 10 cents), and they voided them after a few years when they went to a new key scheme. I asked to have them converted and they gave me a hard time about using them for resale. I only have used them for family and never sold, so after a few chats I got all new valid keys. For some reason though they are only valid for new customers, so now I just use the Gmail trick each year for a new account.

Bought another 2 years. I forgot that I had done that back in 2023 when I still had 1 year left, so I redeemed that one from 2 years ago, and this one for for a total of 4 more years. Thanks OP.

I'll respectfully disagree. First off, the issue is that this feature can't be deactivated by the user/primary licensee. Why shouldn't it be? Utilize the multifactor authentication you seem to have complete confidence in to be able to disable the feature via code removal. Secondly, as a home user, I'm not too worried about someone breaking into my home and stealing my desktop PC. Perhaps the feature is valuable for my traveling laptop, but not all the computers utilizing the license. And third…you would appear to have complete confidence in Bitdefender's design of this feature. I'm no hacker, and perhaps I've seen too many movies, but if this code is embedded in software being placed on each licensed computer, as unlikely as it may be, I don't think it unreasonable to assume a potential threat of miscreants discovering a back door into activating this sleeping code on licensed computers either individually or in mass. I suspect your counterparts at numerous S&P 500 companies that were brought to their knees by such unlikely events had a similarly dismissive attitude as you seem to have. The issue I raised was not primarily focused on the trust of the person(s) having legitimate access to the Bitdefender portal.

My counterparts, at other F500 and F100 companies all use the same/similar capabilities for managing millions of devices worldwide and remote-wipe is a critical and necessary security feature for helping protect against lost/stolen devices. Please tell me more about the job I do and the industry peers I work with.
