I've read extremely varying opinions in the past re whether name brand is worth it for this.

I got two sets of playmags brand from Amazon and i am happy with cheaper price and quality of magnetic tiles. Strong magnetic and none of the piece is broken so far. My son doesn't play them frequently coz he is more interested in video games nowadays. However, he still "has" to learn how to build 3D shapes such as pyramid and triangular prism as part of math shapes curriculum (number of faces, how many triangles pieces, count the number of edges, count the number of vertices...etc) it is best toy to learn math, even better than Lego.
