I use this tablet for that (music sheets), pdf reading , note taking for college (though I have a preference for paper).

Because apple has a lot of rules in place for their app store to direct customers to using their purchase processing so they can skim their 30% off the top. Apple also specifically disallows telling the app user that purchases can be made outside the app. So for some apps like the Kindle app, Amazon simply doesn't allow you to make purchases as they don't want to share their profits with Apple. So the best you can do is add the book to a list. Amazon is not able to tell you that you can then go online, look up your list and then make the payment their. So it may appear to some users that the only place you can purchase books is from iBooks. Apple's policies which cause users to not be able to make a purchase on the device or have to pay 30% more for a subscription so the app owner can get their intended revenue are very much apples fault. Some of this may have recently changed in the last year or two, but it was that way for a very long time.
But in your own example (like all the others), you could have bought the books on Amazon and read them on the iPad THE SAME WAY as any other platform allows. And I use android for my phone and an ipad for my tablet, and guess what.....subscriptions cost the same on both platforms for almost all apps.

So you're either using very wrong logic because you are an apple hater, or you are just a troll.

Either way, you are spreading complete misinformation at this point.

You and I know the work around but not everyone does. That's the point and to ignore it is to be intentionally obtuse.

Buying a book from Amazon is NOT a workaround. It's an alternate seller.

On android, Google sells books too. So if I buy from Amazon on android is that also a workaround? Of course not.

I'm sorry your mom did not understand how to use a tablet, and that she could choose where to buy books. But Android and Apple give the exact same opportunities to buy them; there's no difference.

You're trying to make a distinction and bash one company when no distinction exists.

Have you even looked in the Kindle app on both platforms? Kindle for android allows check out right in the app through Amazons one click purchase. No such option exists in the iOS version. I'm done with this conversation. You asked for why, you got the why. It's up to you to accept it or not.

Then why do you keep responding? It's all been said already.

Google sells books just like Apple, and both allow Kindle and Amazon purchases. You just keep moving the goalposts to try and make it seem like Apple and iPads are evil and forced your mother to buy expensive books.

Your problem was not an Apple or iPad problem. Your problem was that your mother didn't know how to use a tablet. I suspect that if she had an Android tablet, she would have bought overpriced books from Google the same way!

If you don't understand that, we can agree to disagree.
