There are 91,452 BTU in one gallon of propane. So assuming this device can actually hit it's 60k BTU an hour max then you would get 90 mins per gallon of propane.

Also I'm assuming you mean 20LB propane tank, not 20 gallons. A 20LB propane tank holds 4.7 gallons of propane. At it's max setting of 60k BTU an hour you could expect it to roughly last 7 hours. Most likely a little less because you cannot use every single drop in a propane tank.

Double that figure for the 30k BTU rate.
Anybody have one? This is one tool I don't have. Seems like it could be helpful to heat a garage or basement on an as needed basis.
Doesn't appear to have any low oxygen cutoff, be careful if using indoors

Nailed this - but just wanted to add that beyond not using every single drop in the tank, most of the big box stores that do propane tank exchanges don't fill the tank, they're 15 lbs instead of 20, so expect the run rate to be 25% less on those.

Look for a local gas station that does refills. I have one by me that fills em up to capacity for like $15 and $3 off on Sundays. So yeah, basically half the price of tank exchange cost.

Has anyone used something like this to blow heat underneath a car while you are laying on the cold ground in winter working on it? Wondering if it would make that scenario comfortable or would the heat just dissipate too quickly and be a complete waste?

My garage is "occupied" so I currently have to do all my automotive work in the driveway.
That is a very specific situation... think this is one of those just try it and see kinda things. If it's too hot, just lower the output.

Propane in my area is 3.30 a gallon right now. At your 15 dollar rate the tank would need to be bone empty for this to be a deal and then it's only 10 cents cheaper a gallon.

Obviously different locales going to be different rates. The point is in my locale, this represents a big discount over uhaul or exchange places.

Exchanges are always a bad deal regardless of where you are. Go find someone getting rid of used tanks for nothing.

Can anyone comment on the safety of occasionally running this in a closed garage?

Also, what about a large screened in patio?

I would put one of these detectors nearby in either scenario:
Kidde Carbon Monoxide Detector, Propane, Natural, Methane, & Explosive Gas Alarm, Plug-In Wall with 9-Volt Battery Backup, Digital LED Display

Damnit, missed it. I have one, but doesn't use battery. This would have been great on the boat this winter fishing🙂

you would want this on the floor so that it doesn't tip over and fall into something. 15 foot hose included gives you some placement options.

Not a bad deal of your tank needs to be recertified. That's the only time I swap, otherwise I refill at uhaul, Costco, or the local hardware store where they fill the full 20lb tank and only charge for the gallons of propane sold.
