BJ's these days seems more like an "opt in" east coast ubermarket. The upside is they don't seem to care about membership sharing, they dont even take pictures validate ID or give out photo member cards, you can sign up with a new/different email every year at this point, taking advantage of these promos, and just use the app digital card. I didnt even go to customer service last year, and the digital card even scans on their gas pumps.

Additionally, they have a fresh cut deli, with really good prices, the others don't.
The downside is, as other have said is couponing. Unlike Costco and Sam's, you dont get the coupons automatically or see specials/coupons listed in store/on item, you have to go through archaic coupon cutting either on paper or virtually on their app/website (you can use a script to scrape/activate all coupons, but still, a pain).

I would say their store branded stuff is fine, similar to Kirkland, members. I think its just the couponing that irks me because I dont want to be doing research on every single item to see if coupons work or not, but I know for many on this site thats half the joy.

So mostly the same, six degrees of seperation, if you will. Oh, and depending on the store location, some of these can be very empty and easy to navigate, unlike the others (especially Costco with their recent draconian rules, which are going to lead me to drop them soon).
About the coupons, if you use the scan and go feature, the app will let you know if there's a coupon
BJ's accepts retailer coupons. They also list a bunch of digital coupons on their webpage that you can clip. Most are $1-$2.50 off. Their product line is different. They have more retail brands, their store brand is Wellesley farms, it is not as encompassing as Kirkland or members mark and is not the same quality as those brands in my opinion. They offer promotions such as $20off of a $200 purchase. Offering a full 10% off your purchase on top of any coupon deals you have selected. It is far easier to get payouts from them than Sam's on a very popular cash back site.

Bj's gas prices are cheaper than others, as they offer 10c/15c off if you have capital one card based on membership.

Yeah, sadly BJ's "Scan and go" pales in comparison to Sam's, and the point is I don't necessarily have a shopping list going into a bulk store, so I'm not about to scan and check items. For example, if I want to impulse buy some frozen chicken, and I need to choose between the Wellesley store brand and Tyson's, do I want to pull both out of the frozen case and scan them or waste my time punching around their terrible app? No!

AND then further, even if you do scan and go, they want to re-scan/check EVERY SINGLE ITEM on exit. A bit rediculous.

They'll have a better deal later, when you can join for $20 and you get a $20 store credit...basically free.

There's a couple ways to auto-clip all the coupons on BJs. Easiest is a Chrome extension that runs through and clips all the coupons. I fire it up and let it crank before heading to BJs, by the time I'm there I've 'clipped' every possible coupon.

Can you share the name of that extension?

I think a lot of it is personal preference and also just what is around where you live.
I'm in SoCal and here Costco is the main one so that's where I go.
But when I go back to visit family in Atlanta they have all three and what I like about BJs is that they don't make you buy things in quite as much bulk.
I prefer Costco and my dad prefers BJs.
My experience is that the gas prices are about the same, which is much better than most other gas stations.

Again, I know about the auto clipping app, I use it - not the same as stepping up and seeing the item is coupon'd/reduced like at Sam's/Costco. I think honestly this is a net loss for BJ's because only people who are really plugged into the coupon do the buying of random coupon items. I think they lose out on impulse buys. I wind up only buying a couple of things like a supermarket. At Sam's/Costco, I always walk out with random junk I didnt expect. Anyways...

Here is the link to the coupon script, it works very well, it uses TamperMonkey. If it doesnt allow my link just google "BJ's Wholesale Club Coupon Clicker"

I find BJs is more of a grocery trip club whereas Costco is stock-up type place. I have memberships for both (and CCs for both) - I like BJs Cap One card lets you redeem at point of purchase once rewards accumulate vs. Costco doing 1X annually.

That said, BJs has similar items but sizes are different (a bulk pack at Costco may look more expensive but has more product) and clipping coupons is required vs. Costco just applying a sale when the sale is going on. I'd trust Costco with fresh bread loaves over BJs but I can't get rolls fresh baked at Costco so BJs gets that notch.

I wouldn't buy electronics at BJs (Costco often includes extended warranties and the return policy is great) nor would I buy eyeglasses at BJs based on past purchases.

Tires, I'm impartial but tend to Pick Costco due to better installation experience and tire warranty (even if rotations take too long).

While gas is cheaper with my CC at BJs, Costco is Top Tier so I trust it more.

Liquor at BJs seems to be more "common" stuff, Costco has more mid and higher-end stuff.

Crowds at Costco are more pronounced in my area and BJs is really only busy on Saturday/Sunday afternoons and before holidays, but even then, still less busy than Costco at the same times.

In the end, I prefer Costco, especially when you have access to a Business Center location but haven't found a reason to get rid of my BJs membership…yet.

They each have different things. We get Angus meat at Sam's and they have a great selection of tires we can't get elsewhere. Except the Michelins are good at Costco and they have a great warranty. At Costco, we get gourmet things, blue eggs, Irish butter, long shelf life half and half, bakery items are awesome, great produce, and of course the $5 roasted chickens are the best at Costco. We get Gluten Free Perdue chicken strips at BJs and getting deli meat is great. Neither Sam's nor Costco do a deli counter.

To add, their customer service is nowhere near Costco.

Shopping for sales is a bit more irritating since you have to go through hundreds (At times) clipable coupons.

Definitely more variety than Costso; and their app is lightyears better.
