How good is solar? Does it ever need to be charged with a plug?

It "depends" while it has "forever power," unless you are outside most of the day and have a lot of sunshine (Florida or something) , you'll probably need to charge it.

The good news is the battery lasts about 28 days so you won't have to charge very often. I've had mine for a little over a month and I love it. The solar isn't enough where I live, but it definitely slows down it's loss

I swapped my band for the nylon as well

I have the fullest one. The solar does
Not charge ( that's a misnomer) it has solar operation, which just extends the time between charging.

There are reviewers on YouTube going outside with this model and showing an increase in battery percentage after coming inside.

I wish I could trade-in my Pixel watch for one of these. I would love one for the LED flashlight alone

The solar can charge. But you have to be outside a lot. I farm and some days I get home and the battery percentage is higher than in the morning.

FYI this is a BIG watch, and has a thick (26mm I think) band compared to the non "X" model.

I love the idea of a potential "forever battery" watch (think survival or camping scenario), but im going to wait for the 3 to come out. I really would prefer the non "x" version.

Give me the regular size with 22mm bands, better sensor, and possibly even better solar/battery life and i cant ask for much else.

I'm on the fence for the same. Excited about seeing if this can replace my Apple Watch, but would like to see the update before pulling the trigger. Hoping for on device navigation with maps, even if 99% of the time the destination is set via smartphone app or predefined locations. Maybe too much to ask, but wish there was a Siri pass through capability, no onboard processing, just a way to send a request to my phone via the watch, like how it works on headphones or car stereos.

i've had this watch for about 6 months now and i've charged it maybe 6 times since getting it. the solar does work, but will give maybe 1% back after 8 hours in the sun, so its cool, but won't keep the watch charged.
if you're an ios user, this thing will alert on every. single. notification. its an all or nothing deal and sucks because of apple's control over the notification system. so if you have anything that alerts you semi regularly it will notify your watch all the time. AND you can't take any action on any of the notifications. if you're an apple watch user and are used to quick replying you can't do any of that any more if you get this watch.
i recently switched back to android and its been super nice to be able to control which apps notify my phone as well as do quick replies to texts and other messages.
and lets not forget the led flashlight. i thought was gonna be super gimmicky is not. and there's that saying the best flashlight is the one you have on you. i cannot count the amount of times where this flashlight has been super useful. its brighter than my phone's flashlight AND has a red led so you can preserve your night vision at night.
the biggest con for me the size. it is huge 51mm, i've gotten used to it but damn. also the watch bands getting to 26mm making my 22mm collection useless.
if you're on the fence at all, pick it up, its a great watch i don't have to think about charging.

On Apple Watch you can control which apps can notify you but it sounds like maybe there were issues with this watch and that control coming through?

Nope, I've searched high and low for a solution to it, and its the same everywhere. For garmin devices you get every single notification or none of them. Apple guards notification access and restricts it to blessed apps such as the apple watch.

Are you sure? Ive had a 235, 245, fenix 6x, Venu 3 and now a 965 and Ive had it just so it vibrates on calls and texts and thats it. I usually just disable everything though since I really dont want my watch to bother me at all.
