In stock in Orlando. Guess it matters where you are. Just wondering which is better. I prefer the I5 but the Dell says 11 hour battery life.

Looks like a great sub $300 laptop. Wish it had USB-C charging, but otherwise ticks a lot of boxes.

Only con is this is a amd re-used older zen2 processor, so expect performance to be slower. So be warned. Decent if you don't mind that. Ram also upgradable is a big plus.

LPDDR5 generally doesn't mean upgradeable. Where did you see it can be upgraded?

RAM is not upgradeable. Idk where you deciphered that from.

Any bonafide place you can confirm this? Multiple reviews on the bestbuy site say they upgraded the ram, but I can't find a manual or anything

It seems it's using ddr4 ram and upgradable. Just Google the model number.

So how much more money to upgrade to 16GB... you need to take that into account. Let's say $25.00... so the price is now $305. I'm not saying this is bad but for a little over $400 you get SO MUCH MORE....
Search, "ideapad 5 16" 8845hs certified refurbished".... buy ebay gift cards at 90 cents on the dollar....
OR
get the 14" version for less money.

Cheap in most negative senses of the word. Small battery. Low RAM. Dim display. No touch. No USB-C charging. Good for a kid's first laptop. Not serious otherwise.

This laptop is a bad deal. The ram in this laptop is not upgradable. The manual literally says: "The option of two SoDIMM slots is not applicable to AMD Athlon Gold 7220U, AMD Ryzen3 7320U and AMD Ryzen5 7520U processors that are equipped with soldered onboard LPDDR5 memory." The processor it uses, the r5 7520u, literally only supports lpddr5, which is inherently non-upgradable. Speaking of the processor, the 7520u is a quad core 8-thread processor using the tweaked and node shrunk 3 generations old zen2 architecture. It does have somewhat better power efficiency due to the node shrink, has a somewhat more modern rdna2 igpu (with only 2 cu), and supports lpddr5, but it's still fundamentally a very outdated 4-core processor. Pcie support is also limited to gen3. For reference, the multiple generations old intel i3-1215u found in ~$200-$250 laptops is generally superior to the r5 7520u.

The only real saving graces of this laptop are the fact that the screen is 120hz and ips instead of tn, the ssd is 512gb, and the ports are decent.
Nonetheless, the rest of the specs are mediocre. The 7520u is lackluster as described above, you're stuck with 8gb of ram which is the absolute bare minimum in 2024 meaning this laptop will struggle to run windows well within a couple of years, it has significantly outdated wifi 5, the keyboard isn't backlit, and the battery is only 41whr. Also, on an anecdotal note, the budget inspiron chassis has a poorer than average reputation for premature hinge failure, at least with older models.

Even if you're dead set on a dell inspiron laptop (which I would generally be leery of recommending due to the reported hinge issues), there are occasional deals for the i5-1235u version of the inspiron with a much better processor and an additional ram slot for upgrades at $300 or less ($270 and below being easy if you know the right hoops to jump through). Likewise, for around $50-$70 cheaper than the i5-1235u version is the i3-1215u version ($250 on sale from dell right now, and potentially cheaper with 10% sign up code, cb, and/or id.me), which once again is at minimum on par with the 7520u and has the additional sodimm slot for upgradeable ram. They're the older inspiron 3520 chassis with no usb type-c port and ram limited to ddr4 2666, but they're still a better value than the laptop in this deal by a mile.
This also isn't even mentioning all the various other deals from different oem's, and the exceptional value you can get if you're willing to purchase refurbished.

This laptop is simply a bad value, and I struggle to find a reason why anyone actively looking for deals should even consider it. The fact it reached frontpage utterly baffles me. If it was $230 or maybe $250 or below I could maybe see an argument being made for someone heavily prioritizing the screen on a budget, but being stuck with only 8gb of ram should absolutely be a deal breaker at this price.
