I've had these. Can't argue with the price. Compatible with Black and Decker batteries and tools if you shave off a little tab on the battery... Or was it shave it off the tool? I don't recall, but it was nice at the time to be able to buy black and Decker knock off Amazon batteries and use them on my Porter Cable tools. Overall, these are entry level type tools and there is nothing wrong with that or with the tools themselves.
I bought into this line 10 years ago. I've used my impact driver pretty frequently for automotive work and I've been impressed. The batteries are still totally fine, I rarely have to charge them. Wild to me that you can get all these tools for this cheap.
They FINALLY introduced some brushless stuff within the past few years (drill, driver, 2 impact wrenches, ratchet etc) but it's too little too late imo. I can't find their compact sawsall in stock anywhere in the country. Their brushless impact driver somehow has less torque than my old brushed one?
PC, Craftsman and Dewalt are all owned by the same parent company SBD. Craftsman and Dewalt each have literally HUNDREDS of tools in their lineup, but they've mostly abandoned porter cable for some reason. I'm slowly switching to dewalt, but I'm not in a hurry and don't mind two different chargers on my bench.
I still use my PC tools quite often over the Milwaukees. My PC drill also gets my dirty work like cleaning the shower with a stiff brush attachment. If the water and bar keepers' friend kills it, so be it. It's had a good run. As far as I know, they haven't done new models or product improvement in years. I think they pretty much rebranded everything to Craftsman (as so many of the tools look exactly like the PC counterparts), continued development and only made minor changes to the battery mount. I'll buy a cheapo Craftsman V20 battery adapter off Amazon when the PC batteries start failing.

Wait porter cable power tools are still around? I swear I haven't seen them in years.
IIRC, Stanley B&D megacorp had too many brands competing with each other at Lowe's, so they made an exclusivity deal for Porter Cable power tools at Tractor Supply.

Don't do it. Porter cable is a dead brand. Black and Decker, the parent Co has pushed them under the rug and is rebranding they're 15 year old tools with Porter cable. These are garbage in the fast paced tool world. It pains me to say this, but If you need to save a buck buy Ryobi. 100x more tools, better warranty, and far superior tools.... Ouch.

I agree. I own these and they have served me well. I'm about 6 batteries deep into this ecosystem though and I look at bauer and see all the tool options and consider moving to it frequently.
I just work on my own home and projects so my needs are fairly basic but these have been good tools but the brand is dead.
I'm not enough of a fanboy to by Milwaukee and if they are better I don't see the need in my situation. Bauer seems like the logical option to me but I'd leave PC alone as it's a dead end.

That's believable but it's a death sentence for PC as tractor supply is not a go to tool destination like a Lowe's or Home Depot so the brand is obviously going to languish.
I picked sets of these PC tools up at Costco when they were on sale. For average homeowner work they work reasonably well. So well, it is hard to justify upgrading to team red, blue, or yellow.
I did recently go with Dewalt for small-mid-large impacts, grinder, and orbital sander. M12 Milwaukee for driver and hammer drill specifically because the compact driver will be good for automotive work. And that m12 stapler is on my Christmas list.

The death sentence started when Stanley B&D bought them and lowered the quality so as to not compete with their DeWalt line. They were furthered along death row when Craftsman was added to the portfolio in the same niche that Porter Cable occupied.

I agree the Porter-Cable is on it's last leg, but there is nothing wrong with set like this if it suits someone's needs. Most PC tools are not rebranded, but just old designs that haven't been updated. But a lot of changes in power tools have been incremental and not revolutionary. Brushless has been the biggest change, but even that is not earth shaking. I have a Craftsman 19.2volt drill/driver that uses NiCad batteries I inherited from my dad, that is big and heavy compared to modern ones, but the clutch is accurate and it will drive a screw as deep in a board as you could ever need. Other than battery life, it is functionally the same as current models, even though it is a 25-year-old design. I have both brushed and brushless models from multiple brands, so I have plenty to compare it to.

This happened when SBD bought Craftsman. There was no need for two low cost brands, so SBD all but dumped Porter Cable in favor of the better brand awareness of Craftsman. They were going to kill it off completely until TSC stepped up as a seller, but I don't know if that's NOS or if they're still making new tools. Either way, there's no way I'd invest in it as a new user.

Porter Cable 20v power tools have been very durable for the past 15 years for me especially the drill and impact driver. I have been using the heck out of it on my rentals/home, and all tools/batteries are still good. You can easily get a battery adapter to use PC battery on a Ryobi power tools and many other brands. Like other have mentioned, you can use PC/BackandDecker 20v interchangeable with little mod. PC third party good quality battery is cheap on eBay. I wouldn't hesitate of getting it if I needed.

Care to link the type of stiff brush you use to clean the shower?
