I would rather take the risk with Dell than with HP.
HP hinges are also the worst in the business. Tiny and glued to brittle flimsy plastic.

The Dell Latitude 5-series are especially bad for issues of overheating and/or other issues requiring mother board swaps - if still under warranty. One company I.T. guy said his department had so many tossed Latitude 5-series laptops because they all seem to eventually fail not long after their warranty period ends.
We've bought many items from FedEx Recycling ("Dell Refurbished"), and we had TWO Latitude 5-series with motherboard failures. That happened at 4 months and at around 12 months (outside of the FedEx 90 day warranty).
Total loss of about $600 for us.
It was a hard lesson. For these units, it might be better to purchase from Dell directly (Dell Outlet) for a better warranty and more thorough inspection and "refurbishing". Dell is more likely to swap a motherboard from inventory then a 3rd party, though FedEx does have some ability to get parts from Dell (batteries). For other parts (memory, SSD), they're even using non-Dell replacement parts to keep their costs lower.
It's difficult to truly "refurbish" a laptop. They're not going to reseat memory and re-paste CPU chips. They might not even get the dust or coffee stains out of fans and air channels.
Lastly, ignore the original "Suggested Retail Price" on these 3-7 year-old units. Unlikely Dell's consumer division (Inspirons), these Latitudes are sold to companies & government agencies who buy 100-2,000 of them. They automatically get a 35%-55% discount on volumes.

For the big players, I think it's really model dependent - and that doesn't mean price only. Some individual models just seemed to be made worse than others, regardless of the manufacturer.
Dell makes generally good products, with the exception of these Latitude 5-series units. They're just not long-term investments that's for sure. They're disposables. If they survive a 3-year corporate/government lease, their lifespan is dramatically reduced. Other product types, not as much.

If you buy from Dell Refurbished, you have to be an expert to disassemble to check everything, then do various testing of the systems (battery report, check memory, etc.)
And all this sits on top of the problems Windows 11 brings in, with all of its bugs, incomplete development, and so on. So you don't know whether the problems you encounter are hardware based, or some kind of software issue like driver incompatibility, BIOS settings, etc., or simply poor W11 development. Or some interaction across several systems.
