Thanks, TU'd

Cons: Cheaper in the past, DRAM-less
Pros: Faster and higher TBW than WD blue deal currently going on.
Probably not going to happen anymore after the tariffs kick in on January 😕
I'm waiting for that $150 range on a good 4TB nvme, the wait continues.

How does this compare to a name brand in terms of performance?

Junk ! HMB enabled . So nice how they try to hide it..

HMB should be helpful in a device that doesn't have its own DRAM, no? Assuming the host also supports HMB. What's the advantage of disabling HMB on DRAM-less storage?

Yes it is however the newer drives ship with the updated firmware. I also have an S70 Blade that shipped with older firmware using the same controller.
Dude, I came across your comment and I gotta ask.. how do you know the newer drives have updated firmware? Is there any way to test what firmware is on your particular FX900 Pro drive? I ordered one right around Black Friday and been using it without problem since then, but then I went down a rabbit hole and realized the controller of them are known to fail. There's no documentation anywhere that says anything about them updating the controller firmware, and there's no utility available to update it manually from what I have found 🤔

Use HWInfo (https://www.hwinfo.com/download/) to see your firmware version. ADATA uses the same controller on the S70 Blade and released an update tool a while back. Biwin tech is the OEM for the FX900 Pro and as far as I know, does not have their own firmware update tool. PC part picker has a webpage on affected firmware versions: https://pcpartpicker.com/forums/t...controller

According to that link, the bad firmware for the FX900 Pro is 3.A.F.B. My FX900 Pro has firmware 3.A.J.CR and while I cannot guarantee it is a newer version, based on what I know about version updating as a 20 year programmer, I would say it is. There is some Chinese forums that use a home-grown tool to update the IG5236 controller but I have not done this and don't plan too.

I bought one of these. On benchmarks I typically get 4,000 mb/s. About every 5th time I'll see 7,000 mb/s. Still fast enough.

im building a dual 5995wx and i need a 4tb.. i was looking at this but the 4000mb annoys me .. and i am not a big WD person.. that all said which is good for the price? Im weary as i got a mico 2tb unit and its starting to fail in my laptop .. have output errors in my python.

i also have a raid card i need to fill so 1tbs would be fine for that x 4..but the onboard slot i need 4tb. not looking to spend 500 on drives when the board and chips killed me lol
