Their batteries are not cheap, and the knock offs are especially bad.

I decided to buy a different brand of tools rather than buy new batteries from Greenworks. I have some of their stuff that is 5+ years old and still working, but the price of batteries is way too high.

I'm in the same boat. However, base on what I see, all the others have a high battery price as well. You'll get new production but a few years down the road, you'll be in the same boat again.

I have a bunch of batteries that is still working, so I might get this to last me another few years. I may jump ships as soon as the mower and other tools die.

In regards to OEM vs Chinese knockoffs:

As someone who has used a knock off eGo lawn mower battery that basically caught fire and melted on the charger, stick with OEM.

I reported the battery failure to Amazon and the seller had already closed their account at some point, likely to continue selling these batteries under a different ALLCAPS random letter name. Amazon gave me a full refund, thankfully.

OR with a little bit of research you could find a deal on a bundle that comes with a battery such as… (I know this is ~$30 higher and comes with a 4.0 vs 5.0 but you get a vacuum in exchange)

so I did this deal with the GreenWorks leaf blower and got an extra 40v battery free. I had no idea how good of a deal the free battery was until i just saw how much it cost by itself. I could've sold the free extra battery and paid for the entire leafblower

Were the batteries going bad? I've had 3-4 pieces of lawn tools with 4 batteries (all came bundled) over the last 5 years.
