I think I got mine after winter directly from Cotopaxi for $130 on clearance. If you can wait, it might be worth it.

I saw this at my local Costco and it's no better than other the $29-$49 ones sold there. I just could not justify myself paying this price just for the colors!!!

out of the loop, are these a big deal for performance or just the latest cool retro fashion trend?

The Cotopaxi is much better than the "$29-$49 ones sold there." The #1 thing to look for in a quality down jacket is fill power. Then, look for more numerous horizontal stitchings. The more horizontal stitching lines, the more evenly spread out the down. Cheaper ones have less horizontal lines, resulting in bunching up of the down. Look at the back of the cotopaxi jacket. Notice how many thin layers it has? I didn't count, but it probably has like 15 stitch lines. Cheap ones have half that. Then the DWR treatment matters too. I've used my cotopaxi jacket multiple times in the rain and snow without getting soaked through the jacket. Lastly, this thing is super light and packs into itself.

As mentioned by another poster, this is not a great deal, as you could find it cheaper during their 50% off sales. But this is a great jacket, aside from the awesome color choices.

Friend. Is you go into the cold, you will notice why coto has a insane premium. The warmth/fill rating on cheap ones mean nothing, and after a wash or two cheaper products fillers clump up and become worthless.

Not a big fan of cotos value, but can't hate on their performance.

I can't stand this brand at all. It's like they're trying to be North Face but most of the time their quality is worse. Also I find it disingenuous when you have LDS from Utah using indigenous color patterns, names and iconography from South America while making it in Asia. They seem like a total industry plant of a brand completely void of authenticity.

That's a rough take but I sorta agree. I do like their stuff for daily use, the colors are fun and the overall quality is pretty good. I definitely would not consider them very technical though and wouldn't rely on it for anything too critical. I think their puffys would be a good mid layer for skiing and for around town. Otherwise Cotopaxi is more a "lifestyle" brand rather than creating truly technical or athletic gear for the outdoors.

Fyi these have been reduced to $129.97 but there are mostly only XL and XXL sizes remaining. IMO they should have been this price from the beginning.
