This literally is new..... Came out like 2 months ago.
Stop supporting them. Get a 9070 or rx7900. No difference on gaming
This thing is a beast. Worth buying for anyone doing a new AM5 build.

Just wait..New processors coming soon.
Only relevant if you want a 9950X3D which does clock higher than a 9800X3D. Niche audience with mixed use case scenarios or people looking to disable the non X3D CCD and have a higher clocked 9800X3D essentially.

Can you share the build? I bought one for the same reason.
I chose the Asrock b650pro rs wifi and teamgroup t-create cl30 ddr5 (Hynix a die). Probably the best value if you don't need extra mobo features.

I'm using a GIGABYTE X870 AORUS Elite WIFI7 ICE. No issues and it auto-overclocked ram to the correct speed using Expo.

If you're gonna spend $480 on this beast CPU don't cheap out on the mobo. I'd go for an X870 off of Newegg, also the B850 boards are launching this week and look really good.

Just get a asrock a620m for $69. You won't do oc on x3d, and mb has literally no effect on default. During my 20s years career building pc, I only opt for non-basic mb for specific reasons such as I need more pcie or I oc.

Worth noting that it appears the new chips revealed at CES are going to be actually worse than this chip:

I got the ibuypower 7700/4070 so I suspect I'll upgrade to this cpu at some point

Yes. This. "Together, we can make a difference." As long as people keep paying perpetually ridiculous prices for nerfed GPUs, nVidia will continue to be the only ones really "winning the game."
Problem is AMD flat out gave up on the high end after they learned chiplets were bad for GPUs at the high end at least for now. Nvidia thought the 7900XTX might have been competition and they didn't price the 4090 that egregiously. This generation however is a different story, AMD isn't showing up to the high end debate so Nvidia can say whatever they want.

Gamers on the low to mid range may have a choice but high end is a different story.

I've bought this on Amazon 3 times (when the price has dropped to $479) and they've cancelled my order 3 times...Just ordered it again. Whats a 4th gonna hurt?
Cancelled from "sold by amazon" merchant? How soon after your order was cancelled?

I bought the 9800x3d from amazon (sold by amazon) few days ago and it said shipping in late march. I see that the current sale (again sold by amazon) is shipping in late Jan-early feb. I put in an order just now and we shall do a test to see what happens with my first order. If it gets an updated ship date that is before my second order, or if I get my second order first.

I was watching a video comparing gaming performance between a 7800X3D and a 9800X3D, both paired with an RTX 4090, and the difference in FPS in games was very small if any. Wondering if this is even worth the price. Coming from a i5 13600k.
