Like the time I took the ferry over to Shelbyville, I needed a new heel for my shoe, so i tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and back then, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on them, gimme five bees for a quarter you'd say. Now where was I? Oh, yeah, now the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time, you couldnt get green onions back then, because of the war, all you could get was those big yellow ones.

1. They advertised mail in rebates. Few people apply for rebates.
2. They issue store credit on PAPER. Often times they would try to scan my rebate but it would not scan. The numbers are still legible but they cannot manually enter?
What if you accidentally place the store credit paper in the washing machine? You're SOL.
I rather go shop at Costco, Lowe's, or even Home Depot when possible. Much better customer experience.
As someone who just completed a bathroom remodel and mostly bought stuff at Menards (with the 11% rebate before it ended at Thanksgiving), I find them way more price competitive than Lowes/Home Depot (10-15% on nearly everything, sometimes as much as 30% or more on tools like taping knifes, trowels, etc). Lowes was the only store that had my waterproofing system, and Home Depot and Floor and Decor had most of the tile I wanted, but give me Menards over HD/Lowes any day for sure.
