I purchased this a while back and ended up returning it. The fan was very loud and the screen had a significant amount of backlight bleed.
I bought this legion from microcenter, and they replaced it 3 times(they have best customer service i ever experienced!) Until i realized there's a problem with this Manufacturing line, there's a reason it's sold for 1000 I actually bought it when it was 900,I ended up returning it

Care to share the link of when this was $830?
It's this exact same one. It was $829.99 a week or two ago. I don't think anyone posted it to Slickdeals. I only know because I happened to see it on another deal site and almost bought it. Then came here to see discussion on it but was surprised I didn't see it posted.

If it was not posted here, then it was never the price, you're claiming it to be. I, or Suryasis would have posted it. Other sites don't really count.
Also, this comes with the 230W (not 170W) adapter as stated in the official spec sheet: https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/L...83DX00AVUS
There isn't a significant jump from 4060 to 4070 and all the games you'd play on the latter can be played on the former at 1080p. The display is what you'd be looking at the most and a good display while playing games goes a long way (unless you plan to plug in an external monitor) which this LOQ has with a 100% sRGB. This is also 15.6" so more compact and lighter than the 16" Victus. As a portable gaming laptop, this is better overall.

Someone said it came with 170w. If that's not the case then you're right about everything but the price, which was $20 cheaper a couple weeks ago. Regardless it seems to be the best current deal on a 4060 laptop.

The HP Victus 4070 (FHD, AMD Ryzen 7-8845HS) was recently on sale at Best Buy for $850. It has only one SSD slot, so I upgraded the default 512GB SSD to a 4TB Samsung Evo. This upgrade was somewhat whimsical and untimely. Extrapolating from today's price of $0.051 per GB for SSDs, the projected prices for 2025 are $0.0178 per GB for SSDs—but don't forget to factor in the potential impact of Trump-era China tariffs. What am I losing? The Victus' original 512GB drive will serve as an extra M.2 drive in my desktop configuration.
Back to the Victus: the default memory configuration is 8×2 DDR5, which I replaced with Crucial 24×2 (48GB) DDR5 5600. While both the Lenovo LOQ and HP Victus are made of plastic, a side-by-side comparison with the Lenovo Slim 7i (Intel i9, 4070, 40GB—16GB soldered / 24GB Crucial added) shows that heat dissipation is surprisingly better in the plastic laptops. In terms of performance, Cyberpunk at 4K Ultra runs at 34-44 FPS on both machines.
I made a similar observation when comparing the Alienware m15 R7 3070 to the Dell G16 3070 some time ago. The aluminum case of the Alienware causes it to overheat faster than the cheaper plastic case of the G16. By comparison, the Dell XPS 4050—all metal—was especially terrible. An aluminum toaster not designed for gaming.

I'm still thinking whether I should return the Victus 4070 to Best Buy and wait for the 5070 lineup of laptops. The issue is the Trump-era China tariffs: NVIDIA is rushing to release the 5090 and 5080 models in the U.S. market, but 5070 laptops won't arrive until February. As a result, they're likely to be subject to the tariffs, with potential price increases of up to 45%. ++ Even if you're lucky enough to find a 5070 laptop later this year for around $1000, its DDR7 VRAM would still likely be limited to 8GB.
  • About any laptop's watts: undervolt it (if you can), and it will be just fine. Mobile GPU manufacturers stick to 8GB VRAM and underpowered mGPU designs because they have yet to address the trend of steadily increasing TGP in desktop GPU versions. Designing mGPUs for portable gaming with the specs of a real desktop GPU—without causing laptops to overheat & catch fire—remains a challenge.

care to explain why u prefer victus over this one? I mainly like that it has two slots for SSD which a lot of laptops now don't have

I got the 4070 victus last week. Upgraded the SSD to 4tb ($198) and the RAM to 32GB ($60) right out of the box. Set it up and played some half life Alyx on ultra settings using my Quest 3 VR. Performance was amazing. Laptop is fast and I'm loving it so far. Much better than my Asus TUF from 2028.

When it comes to longevity, the better GPU probably will let you game longer before needing an upgrade.

decent deal but for another $150 you can get the 4070 from microcenter (lenovo legion 5 slim)
That microcenter legion has an older slower Ryder processor with no internal gpu. Meaning battery life will be worse.

That Microcenter Lenovo is a good deal, but here are the problems: (1) Available for in-store pickup only; (2) It comes with 16GB DDR5-4800 RAM, compared to the LOQ's 16GB DDR5-5600; (3) Higher taxes for more expensive purchases; (4) Upgrading the Lenovo's 1tb to a 2 or 4TB SSD and RAM to 32GB or more will cost an additional $280+. If you go with Crucial's 48GB and a Samsung 4TB SSD, the total upgrade cost is around $360, bringing the total $s to 1,280 or 1,360 depending on configuration.
On second thought, maybe it's worth waiting for the global cheapening of SSDs, some good luck, and Jensen Huang's manna of the RTX 5070 mobile after all.

curious, how did you upgrade the SSD (assuming you are replacing the original one since victus only has 1 slot) without losing all the original OS and stuff?

FYI these come with a 170w AC adapter… if you buy a 230w adapter (can be found for ~$60 new), the 4060 will go to 140w boost. I have the 7345hs model from Best Buy when it was on sale. I got an open box for $700 shipped.

What does the boost do? Just wondering I have the same laptop

It's an automatic function that allows the laptop to give more max wattage (via the GPU's boost feature), allowing for it to perform better on more demanding games and apps.
