For those of you waiting on a better deal, be aware that the regular price has gone up from last year (49.99 last year vs 59.99 this year per my notes), so the same price may not happen this year. It might be a few dollars higher. I'm tired of waiting so I am getting it now.
Newegg has had a number of gift card deals in the past few months (example https://slickdeals.net/f/17897070-10-newegg-gift-card-email-delivery-5-via-newegg). I got two of them, totaling two $10 gift cards at $5 a piece. So I spent $10 on the gift cards, plus the $2.49 left over after the code, for a total of $12.49 net in my cost for the software.
I too, am waiting… The price will get lower as the month goes on and into February.

I have no idea how this made front page… This price is mediocre at best…

Once it gets to $15 and below then it may be a slick deal but right now it's just Meh.

Hrblock vs turbo tax, which one is the better?
I prefer H&R Block. I used Turbo Tax last year and found it more confusing but overall they both get the job done and it likely comes down to personal preference.

inspir3d is correct here. IRS as a federal agency of the US Department of Treasury does *not* handle STATE taxes. The tax court memo cited references Commissioner of Internal Revenue (federal government IRS), not any of the 50 states, includes the states which have income taxes. IRS has *nothing* to do with your state tax return or state agencies which collect taxes, although most states share tax information with IRS. (not Nevada)
If you can't file your state taxes by the deadline, at least pay all taxes owed by then. Most states accept tax payments online, and some credit cards pay rewards greater than credit card fees charged for payment. But regardless of how you pay, ensure you paid enough by the deadline.
No one else except him is confusing federal with state taxes. He keeps bringing it up when everyone else is talking federal taxes.

I purchased TurboTax Deluxe, but it won't run on my 2023 Mac mini because I don't have Rosetta installed (and I won't install it). Does anyone know if the H&R Block software will install without Rosetta. I spent an hour searching for this information but couldn't find anything. If not perhaps I should go with the TurboTax online, which I haven't researched yet. TIA.

There's some discussion from last year on the Mac Rumors forum that suggests it's a universal app, meaning it should run on Apple Silicon without Rosetta. However, there were several complaints about crashes.

There are several online options if you're willing to go that route. FreeTaxUSA, OLT.com, Cash App Taxes, etc. that are cheaper than TT/HRB online and without multiple tiers and upsells.

I'd also ask Intuit for a refund and let them know this is why. Only way it might change in the future.

Your earlier comment about [some federal court memo/opinion] was in response to a post about *State* taxes:
Quote :
Every state views taxes submitted based on post mark date, not date received.
H&R Block can handle federal and state taxes, but state taxes cost money to e-file. It is more cost effective to print state taxes if you wish to avoid that cost, ensuring they are postmarked by the due date. Virginia considers taxes to be filed timely if they are postmarked by May 1st. Numerous other states (e.g. Massachusetts, Oklahoma Pennsylvania are similar.)

For *federal* taxes, which was the only income tax in the scope of your federal court case, you can just use one of the five free e-files. No need to worry about printing, mailing, or postmark date. Just e-file and pay any amount due by April 15, 2025.

My only point has consistently been to not mail your federal return because it comes with a lot of risks. Why are you confusing state and federal taxes?

I have been running H&R Block Deluxe + State for many years on my Mac Desktop. Earlier this year I ran H&R Block Deluxe + State 2023 on my Mac Mini (Rosetta NOT installed) and had no problem, no crashes. I anticipate doing the same with H&R Block 2024 later this spring.

My mistake. I meant to ask about TaxAct....! That's what we've been using for the past decade.
