Much of that weight difference is sugar; a regular packet (from Kroger) is 39g with 28g total sugar, the k-cup is 19g with 12g total sugar.

The difference is made out of stevia, listed here as "steviol glycosides". Any hot chocolate k-cup has to resort to some kind of non-sugar sweetener, since 19g total is about as much as one can cram in there. Mentioning it here because stevia, like sucralose (Splenda), tastes awful to me.

since I have both Kroger and Dollar Tree versions in the house (don't ask), here are other Nutrition Facts + ingredients observances related to how much product you're getting, listed per serving and in order

K-Cup / Kroger / Dollar Tree
Serving size: 19g / 39g / 21g
Total Fat: 1.5g / 2.5g / 2.0g
Total Sugars: 12g / 19g / 8g
Sugar plus: stevia / corn syrup / corn syrup, acesulfame-K and sucralose
Sodium: 170mg / 170mg / 150mg
Potassium: 181mg / 320mg / 240mg
Consumer reports conducted a test on heavy metal levels in Hot chocolate mixes back in 2023.

The Great Value (Walmart) hot chocolate had the highest levels of lead among those tested. Swiss Miss was among the lowest.

12 grams of sugar per cup for those who have to watch their sugar intake. In comparison, Walmart sells their Great Value brand with 7g.

Packets are 39g each, whereas these kcups are 19g each.
Both versions add 8oz of water as directions, so I'd say it's likely you are getting half the level of powder mix as you are with the packets.

Also these have 170mg salt. I got the Starbuck powder hot coco in a can from Costco, with zero salt.

Milk
2 min in microwave
Packet Swiss Miss
Handful marshmallows.

Nothing beats this!

Kcups are not as thick and taste watered down.
