I would say ok price. M3 pro is quite far away from M4 pro but for 16", M4 pro 24+512 is $2200. If it is Apple refurbished I'm in. But it's not.
Apple has picked price points to perfection. You can't upgrade the M4 Pro to 36GB anymore with $250. You need to go up to the M4 Max to get the 36GB ($600)
Naaa I'd do the bh photo deal

It's by no means "slightly slower". Check the m4 pro in that 16". I don't usually mind too much about CPUs but M4 is a huge update that even Apple itself decides to kill M3 series quick while keeping M2 and m4 on market. If you are not doing local llama stuff that strictly requires 36gb, I would argue M4 pro gives much better utility.

It's 14" btw. People who opt for 16 usually won't consider a 14.
Just a friendly reminder. M1 mbp 16" with 32gb and 512gb which was on the market on 2021 is selling as used for $1500. M4 pro? That's like 2030.
They only "kept M2 on the market" in the form of the MacBook Air (of which they also currently sell the M3 version) and Mac Studio/Pro with M2 Ultra (because there was no M3 Ultra)
It's not like Apple is selling any M2 MacBook Pros. They did not "kill the M3 series"
I will admit that the M3 series as a whole went more underutilized in terms of products it was included in compared to other M-series chips, but that probably had more to do with product release/timing/roadmaps more than anything.
Hell, you could make an argument that the M2 was "shut down" faster than any M-series chip to date because the M2 Pro/Max MacBook Pros that released in January 2023 were replaced in less than a year with the M3 MacBook Pros in November 2023.
