Also, the poster is newish so might not know this, but "$ off" or "% off" posts aren't done here because they're not useful. It doesn't mean anything, and those offers are often deceptive.

At least one of the prices should be in the title and in the post. So it may be how the post was done, and the fact that it wasted a lot of peoples time, as much as this specific deal
I used deluxe with a home based business and also buying & selling stock.
TT Deluxe may tell you while entering info you should upgrade to Premier. Just ignore and proceed with Deluxe
This Costco offer for TurboTax Deluxe + State at $45 ($56-$11) is essentially the same as the Amazon offer in the link from last year but includes a $10 TurboTax credit (e.g. to e-file state taxes) instead of a $10 gift card.

How much you want to bet that Amazon posts its sale the day Costco's offer goes live.

I have always done my turbotax online... why are these still being sold in stores? there is no CD-ROM drives anymore. is this actually cheaper than my entering my credit card # to file on the web?

Does anyone know if this license can be converted to be used with the online version of Turbotax?

I purchased Turbo Tax deluxe at Costco, how do I get the license code??? I did not purchase Turbo tax using the online...went to the store and purchased it. Don't know where or how I get the license code. How frustrating! should have done the download thing
Never mind. I called Costco and they said after checking out I should have seen a supervisor who would have given me the sealed license code. The problem was I did a self check out and didn't know I had to see a floor supervisor to get the license code when I left the place.

Has anyone used CashApp to file their taxes? How is it compared to Turbotax in terms of the final refund/amount to pay.
Yes. For several years now. I start with turbo and then redo on cashapp. the numbers always come up as the same. Slightly more work on non traditional income on cashapp but its doable and covers many scenarios

exactly thanks for pointing it out. I buy TT or H&R to import my 1099 (Charles Schwab)… probably mainly for this feature alone.
Unless the free tax apps offer this import feature and does it well, for now,
I cannot use https://www.freetaxusa.com/ which does not import 1099-B forms
This is true, but not as valuable as many people think. You can report your capital gains in aggregate, so you don't have to list every single trade. This shortens your 1099B entry to a handful of numbers - fewer than manually entering a W2 for example, which most people still have to do. The IRS already gets the full 1099-B with every trade, which is what makes this possible.

Intuit sent out an email a month or so ago stating no more CDs. You can still share the key with others since they require separate Intuit accounts for each user.
Once the key is activated, it is tied to a single Intuit account. So, you can only share if you're willing to share your Intuit account. Annoying, but I suppose it aligns with the idea that you're only supposed to be sharing within your household (i.e. people you trust). Since returns are not stored in your Intuit account, other users can't see them. At least that's what Intuit says.

Nope. But this is better anyway. Here's why: https://thefinancebuff.com/tax-so...sktop.html

it's not a CD. You just buy a license key, whether in store or online. You then download and install the software locally rather than doing it online with a web browser. Desktop is better and here's a summary of why: https://thefinancebuff.com/tax-so...sktop.html

Oh crap, thanks for correcting me! If the person ever used the online version, their taxes could be viewed by anyone else sharing the Intuit account. I used the online version for a few years and my old taxes are still available to be accessed in my account.

Yikes! I didn't even think of that situation!

one thing that all the freetaxusa super fans don't realize. if you file multiple returns, the desktop version may work out to be cheaper. At $15 per state return, and as long as you're willing to mail in your TT state, it may be cheaper.
