First I have found of a significant discount on AirPods Max USB-C. So far it's just been the Lightning version.
Yes these are expensive, but this brings it more in line with it's main competitors like the Bose QuietComfort Ultra and Sony XM5, and by most accounts the AirPods sound significantly better than the others, although the others may beat them on ANC and depending on the person potentially comfort.
Be sure to read reviews on all if in the market and try them out first if able. Headphones are one of those things that can be down to the individual. If in the Apple Ecosystem though and looking for more sound and ANC than the earbud AirPods, worth a look.

Rtings rates both the Sony and Bose as better than the Apple headset for neutral sound. The primary thing the AirPods Max do better than the others is the transition to speech/transparency mode.

I love RTings, I am a paid member, so not going to dismiss their review here. But it seems to most in real-world usage they prefer the Max.
To each their own, as I also said in my original post. It's good to try a few headphones and see what you like.
