Just had my furnace in my 3 year old house break and need a replacement high-heat limit sensor. HVAC guy said it had to have happened because of some type of significant airflow restriction. We keep the registers fully open at all times throughout the house. However, we did start using these filters last year to try to help our kid's allergies. Changed them regularly to avoid this exact problem. However, our heater still almost got burnt up from restricted airflow. Thankfully these things have sensors that shut the unit down to keep the house from burning down. We've also been in the middle of single digit temps while this failure occurred so the heater was having to run regularly. Just my anecdotal experience/2c. Unfortunately, we'll have to go back to a standard filter rating.

Good quality filter, especially for those with allergies.
I have 2 odd ball sizes ( 20x25x4 and 20x23x1) , wish they carried them.
The 20x23x1 is especially hard to find.

Big downside of a good merv rating. I change them every month. Sometimes they look pretty clean, but I stil change them. My 4" ones I change every 6 months.

So what number should we be looking for? I have some of these but haven't used them yet.

Be aware these are quite restrictive for air flow and can put extra stress on many hvac systems. The filtrete 1900 ones are supposed to be better. Filtration not quite as good, but they don't restrict the air flow the way the 2500 filters do.
Yep. Got a merv 13 filter thinking the higher the merv the better, but it's a fallacy. The filter killed my heater motor. Cost me $1,200 to have a new blower motor put in.

These high MERV ratings are getting ridiculous. The filter is so that the ac unit does not get dirty.

Clean air is important but so is airflow. Once you go too high you can make the unit work harder than it has to.

More important is actually changing the filters. I can't tell you how many units I have seen fail because people don't change their filters or clean their coils. Do those two and a properly install unit will easily last you 10+ years.

Right. It's not your HVAC unit's job to purify air. It's not designed for that purpose. The filter is so that there is no heavy particle/dust build up within the HVAC system. If you want your air clean, just invest in air purifiers.

These are all coming up $39.99 shipped rather than $34.99. Do you have a source for the OP price?

It was in my email today for $35, but agree the app shows $40. Email says in warehouse and online.
