og Silent Hill 2 is a brilliant game, but very dated at this point. The remake does an ok job at bringing it up to modern standards. Does not really do much in terms of creative adaptation of source material, but the core of the game and experience is still there. If you never played Silent Hill before, you will probably have a great time with this game, and it's arguably a better way to experience it for the first time. Although, og is still very special due to a lot of creative choice driven by the hardware constraints and heavy stylization.

Agreed.. by today's standards one can only take so much of a walking simulator.

Standard edition is a couple bucks less, a better deal imo. Deluxe version includes:
Silent Hill 2
Digital Artbook
Digital Soundtrack
Pyramid Head Mask (pizza box)

Been excited to play it for over 20 years now. Got it on Black Friday for $30 for ps5. It's sloooowwwwwww. Walking around slow, figuring out puzzles. Gonna give it one more go, then sell it before it drops too far

I think I'd rather watch a play through on YouTube to see the story.

It's a pretty faithful adaptation and doesn't stray too far off from the original, for better or worse. They did slightly expand on things a bit with some of the characters and the boss fights are extended to better fit their context, but it still follows the same story beats.

I think the biggest hurdle for me was the combat, the enemies can be pretty aggressive and it wasn't until the midway point where I got a handle on how to approach them. I also felt that the original still has the better atmosphere, since changing to a behind the shoulder view took away from a few moments that originally had deliberate fixed camera angles that really drove up the tension.

Overall, aside from a few other minor gripes, it is a solid remake that ended up being way better than most people were expecting.

I'm a big fan of the originals, which were never great with their gameplay but much more about story and atmosphere. They absolutely nailed the atmosphere in the remake, in a way that actually made me appreciate the originals with a fresh perspective. The gameplay is nothing amazing, but good enough to stay engaged with the mostly unchanged story. All in all, I think this is one of the best horror games made in the past few years.

I think that depends on how long you're willing to wait and what your backlog is like. This is one of the few games I bought at launch for full price, and I don't regret that at all - but I also am an old fan of the series who heard this was supposed to good. I believe around black Friday the PS5 base version got down to $30 just a month after release, if that's any indicator that the price will continue to fall steadily in the next year.
For me a sweet spot for games I've heard good things about but I'm not itching to play this moment can range from $5-$20. I'd bet we'll see an edition get down to the $20 price point in the next year, but we'll have to see.

$40 for a 30 year old game? That's robbery. It should be $20 max, preferably $10.
