Unless you have USB-C 3.2 Gen 2×2 Interface, which basically no one has, the x9 pro will be the same speed
4TB X10 Pro is $220 at Microcenter. https://www.microcenter.com/produ...tate-drive

You can get a PM at BB using the live chat.

$55 per TB (for the 4TB) is a lot better than $73 per TB for a (for the 2TB).

This is news to me. Do you have a different recommendation for a 4TB ssd (for Mac)?
Crucial X9 pro has a mac version.

The file system issue can be resolved by formatting for mac os and keeping it that way I guess. They may have released a new firmware fix after all the corruption reports, but I doubt it. Crucial doesn't seem to be doing particularly well on the software side. You can reach their support and ask.
People also have solutions online but I didn't look into it as I don't touch Apple products.

Does MacMini M4 with Thunderbolt 4 support this max transfer speed? I'm reading that in the absence of a TB4 compatible device it'd function at USB-C 3.2 level, but unclear if that means 2x2 or anything lower?

No Mac released to date supports USB3.2 Gen 2x2. Including machines with USB4, Thunderbolt 4, and Thunderbolt 5 ports. USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 uses two lanes of USB, while the USB4, TB4, and TB5's USB compatibility mode can only negotiate a single lane USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps).

I do. But it depends on what mac you have, of course. If you have a recent Mac model that supports USB4, I have had good luck with and can recommend a JEYI USB4 enclosure. I bought mine on the 'zon, but they are also available on bang good and ali express.

After some tweaking and firmware updates, I was able to get around 3500 MB/s transfers from my M1 Pro Macbook Pro with the JEYI and a fast new PCIe 4.0 NVME stick (2TB, but you could buy a 4TB).

Theoretically, PCIe 4.0 is capable of twice that, but not yet in an external enclosure. Note that the internal mac ssd speeds can reach 7000MB/s, as can a recent PC motherboard. There just seems to always be a hit with external speeds; USB4 has a theoretical max of 4800 MB/s, but overhead seems to knock that back to about 3800 MB/s.

There are several other factors besides just getting an enclosure marketed as USB4:
(1) The computer has to support USB4 and devote enough PCIe lanes (i.e. x4 instead only x2) to the USB4 interface;
(2) The computer's USB4 controller can be a bottleneck--some of the non pro mac minis reportedly max out around 2500MB/s;
(3) The NVME ssd speed itself; a PCIe 3.0 ssd is limited to about half of a PCIe 4.0. Also if the ssd runs too hot, it will throttle its speed back.
(4) The chipset used in the enclosure. For USB4, the best available now is the ASM2464PD.
(5) You must use a USB4 cable. This can also cause speeds to drop back to USB 3 levels.
(6) Finally, the whole stack has to work well together. There should be good heat transfer pads from the NVME to the enclosure, all firmware upgraded and capabilities recognized properly, etc.
Other brands of Mac friendly enclosures: OWC has a good support reputation; and Ocasis makes a TB3 enclosure that will max out around 3000 GB/s.

Microcenter changed the way it's listed. It used to just be $219.99 when I (and others) got a PM. Now it's $261.99 with a $42 member discount. I'm not surprised BB won't PM it now.

Not sure why people are downvoting this. Equals best Best price it has been as op indicates. Do some research and find out the upgrades this product has over previous gen and other ssd before u downvote. Good deal.
This is not the best price it has been. This same 2TB Crucial X10 Pro was on sale at the end of January at Microcenter for $99.

So this deal is almost 50% more expensive than the best price it has been, which was less than a month ago.

This might be an alright deal if you are in the need, but not a particularly slick deal.

Btw, I bought 2 from Microcenter last month during the deal, and they seem like great drives. I didn't realize how small they are!

These types of external drives can only be used to store games on the newest gen, but not for actually playing those games. To play games using this drive, you would have to copy over the game files to the internal harddrive in the console before playing. Also, I do not believe the Xbox Series consoles have any USB-C, and I think the PS5 only has USB-C on the front of the console but not on the rear.

PS5 has an internal M.2 storage expansion slot for adding storage. Xbox Series users are stuck having to pay the inflated prices for the WD or Seagate storage expansion cards that are officially authorized for using with Xbox Series consoles.

As for the older gen consoles (PS4/Xbox One), they do not have USB-C, and there are much cheaper options for adding more storage that would perform just as well.
