It's funny because I contacted the Lowe's SRs via chat to ask if they could explain why it didn't qualify for the military discount in my cart and, after explaining that military discounts can't be applied to any sale items (news to me), she said that if I could find a comparable model online for less that she would price match it. I told her the cheapest I could find was a reconditioned model on Acme and she said "no problem, I'll price match that. Thank you for your service." Extreme YMMV, but she was nice enough to PM the Acme Reconditioned as a consolation prize for not being eligible for the military discount.
I had her wait a few minutes so that I could purchase gift cards from GCX at 15.9% discount, so I really only spent $927 out of pocket, including tax, delivery to my door, and assembly.
Just thought I'd post here in case someone wants to try this route and gets lucky as I did.
